Default Engine knock? Lifters?

I never heard this sound coming from my LS1 until today. It's not unusually cold (actually warm @ 45 degrees.) Its due for an oil change, running close to 3700 miles, but still that not terrible for fully synthetic mobil one is it? Any way I could quiet this noise down? Any additives I could use? Sounds like my motor is on its way out...

When it warms up it goes away 90%. With 150k on it, I'm not surprised it doesn't sound perfect but now that I changed the oil (oil was pretty rough) it is just about gone completly. I'm going to let it sit over night so I can hear a 100% cold start again. I'm thinking the lifters are getting old

That does sound more like a knock rather than a tap. Is the sound louder at the bottom of the motor or the top? That will answer your question.

Do the easiest thing first, take off the valve covers and check your springs. When I had a tapping sound, the rockers were eating away at the top of the valve stems, then digging deeper, some of the lifters were shot which made grooves into the cam.

I hear normal piston startup noise and some Lifter noise.................that hollow CONKING noise as you rev it is normal cold piston noise. The tapping noise is the lifters. You are fine.

Doesn't sound quite violent enough to be rod knock. My guess is just piston slap.
