Default Removing LS3 heads

I have a 66 nova with an LS3 in it. I would like to remove the heads to get them ported. The shop where the car is currently at says its going to run about 10 hours of labor to unbolt the heads from the motor. That seems like a really long time. My question is how difficult it to remove and install the heads on this motor? Is this something that average person can do safely?

I would say yes. And with your car it would be fairly simple. Check out LS1howto.com and follow the direction for head swap. The downside is...if you're using stock gaskets and bolts you cannot reuse them.

1 thing. The rockers on the LS3 head are different than LS1/2/6. The exhaust rockers are different than the Intake rockers. Make sure you keep them in order.
