Default New to a 2001 Camaro SS, couple questions.

Hi this past winter I had purchased a 2001 Camaro SS with the LS1, from the hock shop, which is basically buying a car from a pawn shop, I was given little to no detail on the car, but I was told it had a rebuilt bottom end on it, with about 80k on it now. But I was recently out viewing the engine bay and had noticed that there was a certain line cut and covered in duct tape and being new I'm not sure what it is, I think it might be a AC line but I looked through the vehicle diagram and couldn't find anything.

Where the blue line is, that little hose is missing and covered in some duct tape hahah, just looking for any help and for someone who can give me some advice on these vehicles. Here's a photo of the SS

Yes, you are correct, that is definitely an A/C line.

Thank you does having this line off affect anything? I don't really care about air conditioning for the summer days and maybe it'll even give me a 5hp gain, I just wanna know if it'll hurt the engine after a certain time, I only plan on driving this for the summer and parking it before the winter

Only issue I see occurring is that your A/C compressor kicks on when you turn on the defrost. Obviously the system has no refrigerant in it, but I'd be concerned about burning out the compressor with nothing in it. Otherwise it shouldn't harm the engine itself at all.

The compressor clutch won't engage at all without any refrigerant, so it will just freewheel like when the A/C is off.

Ah, then at that point I'd just yank that out. Save you a bunch on weight lol.

What kinda oil / coolant should I put into it?

Stick with dex cool and whatever it recommends?

And for oil a 5-30? Everyone has they're own preferences for brands

I stick with Dexcool and M1 0W40 oil. Lots of opinions on oils and coolants, but I've never seen/read/experienced anything that's made me interested in deviating from the aforementioned choices.

Exactly. At which point you could either remove the A/C belt to free up a marginal amount of power (likely not noticeable), and you could also ditch the system for weight savings as mentioned here:

When I was driving it I had also noticed that the driver side window wouldn't go down! I read a couple articles saying it could be the window motor or the control module or something, but the radio works and passenger windows does as well, locks works too, I was told there was power going too it but it just doesn't go down, anyone have any ideas before I bring it to a mechanic to look for a bad ground or a new regulator?

I second what RPM WS6 says. I put Mobile 1 synthetic in all my cars, and sticking with dex cool (with regular flushes) will help your system last forever.

My driver window doesn't go down either, the motors burn out really easily, unfortunately. I'm going to have to replace both soon, only 40k miles on my car.

It's probably the motor. Advance Auto has rebuilt motors for around $50 with a limited lifetime warranty. I've had several motors replaced over the years.
