I've personally run Castrol 5/50 synthetic for close to 330,000 miles in a twin screw blown 4.8 that saw a lot of heavy towing use. It now belongs to my dad and is still internally in great shape. I changed the oil usually 2000-3000 miles after the change oil light on the dash came on, so many oil and filter changes were at around the 10,000 mile mark. The LQ4 is an identical motor with the exception of bore/stroke, so it should see similar results.
