ok here is the thing last night i was puting in the crank bolt to hold in the crank pulley the engine starts turning of curse so my friend puts in the drive shaft and at the end puts a metal pice to keep it from turning. The engine keeps truning however while the drive shaft is not. He lets go of the drive shaft and it now starts turning with the engine. At this point is seems that the clutch is sliping The engine and the trany are hooked together off of the car. My question is does the tranny, clutch need to be on the car with all the lines hooked into it for the clutch not to slip. aaaghhhhhhhhh help damnit this is pissing me off, heyJABERWAKI if you out there i could use your input here!!!!

I guess you could try backing the bellhousing bolts off and pulling the tranny away from the engine like half an inch. That should take any pressure off the pressure plate springs if there is any and let the clutch engage. If it doesn't engage with no pressure on the springs than maybe your pressure plate wasn't bolted to the flywheel right or maybe your clutch is fucked.

theres a tool that i havent used in ages that actually locks onto the flywheel to prevent it from turning or makes it easy to turn iffya want. had a big handle with a spring loaded doohickey that grabbed the teeth on the flywheel. been a long time so i dont remember exactly how it worked, but i used it quite a bit on my old poncho, but that was an automatic and all i hadda do was simply remove the inspection plate to use it.
