Default I'm getting closer just need a little more guidance

So I'm getting closer to getting my car. My truck is up for sale, and I have a few friends looking right now. It is possible that I will get a 98, but I am hoping for a 99 due to the computer change.
so here is my question, I have the option of buying a brand new 2002 LS1 from a friend who has a bunch of them sitting in crates. I am really excited to do this because I will have bascily a brand new car for about nothing, but I want to know if I should get a computer to go with it? I figure I should, but wanted to know what issues there are with putting an 02 engine in a 98 with all 98 type accesories and electronics. I have searched all over but just can't find the answer that I am looking for, so now I turn to you.

So basicly what I am asking, is will it be less of a pain in my *** to buy a 99 and transition the stuff to the new engine than a 98?

Everything should be allright electrical wise, the harness & connectors are pretty much the same... You will need to get the 99' & up pcv hose for the motor because 98's use a different style & you will also need to get 99-02 style coil brackets for the valve covers as well... A buddy of mine just recently put an LS6 crate motor that I sold him in one of his customers 98' TA & basically just had to do the same thing... Good luck on getting your car, you'll love it when you do.

just get the wireharness and PCM with it, for the 02 that is. if you get a 98-00 pcm you'll need to edit out the egr functions, the 99-00 you'll need to have the pcm scaled for the bigger injectors. and theres other little odds and ends.

Ok so I may have some late developments.
As of today I have run across a great deal on an LS-6. The motor came out of a Z06 that had 50 miles on it, before it was turned into a road race car. The motor comes with: Alternator, Manifolds, water pump, AC compressor, full injection, ignition, and intake systems. In other words the motor is just like it is when it is sitting in the car. On top of all of this excitement, it comes with the original stock computer. So here is the big question, how much modifying on a 98 or 99 Z-28 am I going to have to do? Am I in for some issues concerning the wiring harness, or is this going to be a walk in the park? I am hoping that I can just drop the thing in, trade out computers, and have the car running just like it never missed a beat, but as I have found out in my years of working on cars there are always snags.

So what do you guys think?
