Ls6 cam on 02 ws6
#23
I was told to stay away from the LS6 cam as well. Well, I have it and I like it. Idles like stock, but pulls hard as hell compared to the stock cam I had before. I went from a LS1 in my '00 Z28 with a 6 speed to a 5.3 block with a 5.7 crank and pistons, 317 heads, and the stock LS1 intake. I now spin the tires in 3rd gear on acceleration in the rain. Didn't do that before. It definitely woke the car up. I've also got 3.42 gears so it's not the slowest, but still gets pretty good mileage. Not sure how much power I'm making, but I should get a better tune on it and maybe check it's power numbers.

Glad to hear that bud and thats a nice setup u got, now for sure ima keep the ls6 cam, I've been getting replies to go for a bigger cam and i know there way better out there but not looking for something too crazy just to gain some good power and still have fun with it, plus i dont want to have a lope sound, i was looking into a gt2-3 cam but its a similar cam from the ls6 and really i think it'll be a waste of my money if i would of went with that gt2-3 due to its costs is $380, If ill buy a $400 cam ill buy a custom grind cam but since i got the ls6 for cheap from my friend i would like to keep it people wont even know a have a slightly bigger cam vs ls1. But I would like to try the ls6 since i dont want something too crazy plus i hardly drive my car only 36k so i dont want to put too much money into it just something decent that will be fun to drive here and there

My LS6 cam dyno file is attached. stock 2005 LQ9 6.0, cheap pacesetter headers, SLP 2OTL catback, LS6 intake, LS6 cam, 7.425 pushrods, LS6 valve springs, 3:90s gears. Dyno tuned. No cutout or underive pulley. With the 3:90 gears it was a very fun setup.
Do some research and dont listen to the BS replies in this thread.
LS6 cam and boltons is 375-385 all day long. LS6 cam, 243s and boltons is 395-405 all day long. The LS6 cam makes for a very nice setup.
If you want a lopey idle, then dont use the LS6 cam.

It also seems that OP is confused in thinking that the 224, 228 cams or even the 220 "old man" cams are big or even medium sized cams. They all idle well and have very good street manners and drive well. I only recommend them because they will help get OP to his goal a lot easier and cheaper than the hotcam. In the end its his car I just know myself id like to look at all options before deciding to spend the cash.

[QUOTE=usnfenix;19553838] Doesnt matter if you havent "seen" them. The facts are a LS6 cam with the supporting boltons will produce 375-385 to the wheels. Do a search in the DYNO section on this site for LS6 cam and you will see. Add a set of stock 243s, you'll make 15-20 more. Have the 243s milled and you'll make even more.
,
I made 379/380 with an 10:1 cr LQ9 through 3:90 gears which rob power. roughly 7rwhp. Nothing special. His milled 243s will put him at almost 11:1. Add an underdrive pulley and a cutout, he will be at 400rwhp with a tune.
Yep those are great cams but he said he wanted "Zero" lope...he wants "stock" sounding. So those cams are out of the question. No matter how well those cams will idle, they still have a little "bumpity bump" to them
BS replies? cmon man don't be biased just because you run it. Down here in FL I haven't seen these 380rwhp ls6 cam cars, especially not the A4 guys.
Now not knocking the cam it has its use and its following but lets not pretend everyone can throw it in and make 400rwhp easy, if it were like that everyone would be running it. With full bolt ons and 243 heads with work I can see the 380

my real world dyno sheets show a different story. maybe my 2:73's knock a few ponies off but not that much. we do have a local dyno that reads 25 above others if your ok with false #s. i've run mine on both a mustang & a dynajet and never came close to 400.
