Rack and pinion needs to be replaced
Hey all,
so i have a 2000 camaro z28 and just recently i noticed my rack and pinion started leaking horribly from the right side boot(inner tie rod end) im guessing the seal just completely tore appart. I was wondering if its worth buying a rebuilt rack and pinion from autozone or any other local car part store. The reason i ask is because i heard that they just have the rack sitting without lubricating the seals and with time the seals can get gritty and begin to leak i also wanted to know if the rack and pinion has to be from another camaro ls1 or if it can come from a v6 camaro. I havent looked much into this stuff its the first LS i own and im not too acknowledged with this type of stuff but i do know my basic stuff, just wanted to get some tips on what i should do.
Thanks guys!

Years ago I purchased a re-manufactured unit from my local auto parts store and didn't have any issues. Honestly most new or reman units come from the same couple of companies and are simply re-branded like most other non-OEM replacement parts.

I actually just replaced mine about 2 weeks ago. I bought mine from Detroit Axle. Lifetime warranty and was less than $200. So far so good, everything was nicely protected when I received the box, and the installation went smoothly.
