Default need help figuring out why my belts get torn up.

I have a 2007 gmc sierra ad I have been through a few belts. I lined up everything right but as soon as I turn the engine over the belt moves to the front of the truck on the water pump pulley a bit and it causes the belt to ever so slightly move forward on the balancer but after one of the ribs ripped off it seems to be sitting fine now. not to sure what that means. it was moving forward but now its not. what should I do?

Was the belt you purchased all from the same place?

I have seen it where a tensioner will cause this.

Check pulley alignment. I installed an aftermarket A/C compressor on my truck a couple of years ago and had the same problem. After checking pulley alignment, and comparing the old compressor to the new part, I found the mounting holes were incorrectly placed causing the A/C pulley to sit slightly forward of stock. I bought an OEM unit and everything lined back up.
