Default Cam suggestions.

Hello,
Recently purchased a 6.0l L96 engine to take the place of the straight 6 in my 1970 C10 p/u. A few things I've had suggested to me and looking for some feedback:

* Send the cpu to Texas Speed to be flashed.
* Change the cam while the engine is out.

It would be appreciated to hear some of the suggestions about how and what products to use. I'm interested in a great sounding truck with power and would like to do as little as possible to the engine to achieve that.

Thanks for the suggestions and advice in advance.

1970 C10 p/u

If you're sending the ecu tp Texas speed then I would call them and see what cam they recommend, They might even be able to put in the tune needed for their cam.

We put a bone stock LQ4 6.0 in a 73 Nova with long tube headers and a 3600 stall and it will put down rubber in 2nd gear from a roll. With a heavy truck the stock cam will do ok but a mild cam will get you more power without loosing low end torque.

Step one: Find local tuner. Always better than mail order.
Step two: Order a stage 3 or 4 brian tooley economy truck cam
Step three: If this is an automatic trans, order a converter
Step four: Install and boil tires!

If money is tight, I'd go converter over cam.

This gentleman is completely correct. If auto, throw a converter first.
Talk with a reputable company about your goals and current setup so that you can build it to work with each other. i.e. gears, tire height, and how you want the vehicle to sound and perform.
A real dyno tune is a must. Every engine is different and need specific values in the tune.
