Newbie cam selection.
Hey all! We are building a budget minded 07 lq4 to put in our 02 z/28 for strictly drag racing. Stock rods and pistons, stock crank, 243 ported heads, mildly ported tbss intake with 102 throttle body, and 1 3/4 long tube headers. Im currently looking at a cam with higher duration and low lift (238/242 & .595 at .050, LS is 112 with an IC of 108). Wondering about the pros and cons of a cam like this. Is it better to run same duration and a higher lift cam or will this be fine? Tryin to get in the low 11s through a 4l80e with hd2 kit, 3000 stall, and 4:56s on 275/60/15 drag radials. Thanks for any advice folks!

At least 4000. How high are you going to spin it? With a 28 in. tire, 4.56 gears, spinning it to 7000 rpms will run you out to about 120 mph @ 6 - 8% converter slip. If you're going to spin it to 7 I would go around a 4400 stall.

Thanks for the info! 7000 shouldn't be a problem. We upgraded the trunnions over the winter and installed a BTR .660 valve spring kit.

Gotcha. That should do ok then with that cam. Especially with the 4.56 gear and larger stall like mentioned above. A bit more lift would probably help a tad, but it would be very minor

Thanks for replying! We upgraded the trunions over the winter and added the BTR .660 spring kit so hopefully we don't junk it.

Appreciate the info humans! So the general thoughts im getting is bump the compression up and more stall should make that cam work pretty decent.? Should be able to achieve our goal.

Car is currently full interior minus a few small things. Stock gas tank and battery is still up front. We boxed in all the rear arms for now until we get $$$ to upgrade the suspension. TA is stock but shortened a bit .
