Default Lq4 build

So I just purchased a lq4 motor and also this is all new to me. So I really need help on figuring out what all I should do to build this motor. What cam? Heads? Currently 317 heads. Pistons & rods? Lifters & push rods? And so on any one that can help me I’d greatly appreciate it

All depends on what you plan to do with it. You didn't give any info to work with.

Just a straight street car pretty much
Honestly as far as carb or injection I’m still thinking about that. But say stock crank but good rods, pistons, and heads wat do you recommend

I’m building a 6.0L too. I chose to use the stock crank and rods with Wiseco Pro Tru pistons. They were less than $400 shipped on Black Friday. Plus they have a dome so you can get compression up to 11:1 pretty easily, even with the 317 heads.

but if I kept the 317 heads would they still be robbing power? If I got those dome pistons

The 317 heads would work well but you can get more power with a different head with smaller chambers. 243/799 castings would be good with 64cc chambers, that would get you to about 11.8:1. I will probably use a 862 head and mill it down for about 13:1, but I plan to use E85 instead of 93 octane gasoline.

im building a 6.0 myself and from what ive learned 317 are very good for fi applications and the 243/799 are better for na cars

The ports are essentially the same so it really just comes down to chamber size. The 317’s are at about 71cc so they’ll lower the compression ratio which helps for boosted applications. The 799/243 castings are about 64cc so they raise the conpression.

You can build a nice street engine with a stock LQ4 short block. There are a lot of guys running stock junkyard LQ4/LQ9 short blocks with high miles -- with turbos and nitrous. They are pretty stout. If you are on a budget n/a build and the short block is in decent shape you could just clean it up and add a set of used 243 heads and an LS6 intake, or a set of used LS3 heads and an LS3 intake, and a cam. That would get you a pretty strong street set up for not too much cash.
