second 3500 stall is a solid choice.
third your gears are crap. there will be a night and day differance going to 3.42 or 3.73.
forth there is NO reason to fear 3.73 anymore then 3.42 there is not much differance in the 2. (but you can find 3.42 dirt cheap from any m6 guy stepping up to 4.10)
fith 2.0 60' in an auto sucks anyone that tells you differant cant drive. 1.9 60's in a m6 is good driving(stock tires stock car) you should be pulling 1.8 stock and that only gets better with the stall and gears.
with good drag radials, verter, gears, there is no reason you cant run high 12's all day long (in good air)

would be sad if a a4 could not 60' better then a m6...
my 60's stock were 2.0-1.9 on stock rubber with a stock m6.
hell, i got a 1.96 60' outa my lt1... and its slow 13.4 @ 105 mph cutout and cold air only

Are we talking totally stock though? I would think the M6 would net the better 60' time because you can really dump the clutch. Wouldn't the A4 (stock, not aftermarket vert) bog down and actually lose you some time? Maybe I'm looking at this backwards.

you have a good point, IF we where on sticky rubber.
but on stock rubber you cant dump the clutch at 4500 rpms.
in fact if you dump the clutch under 1500 rpms(where you wont burn off your tires) you will bog.
you end up having to feather the clutch out alittle. which is both hard to learn, hard on parts and not consistant at all.. bone stock the a4 can floor it off the line . and the stock verter still flashes to 1500 rpms so bogging(like 800 rpms) should not be an issue.
things change ALOT stock for stock with good rubber... then the m6 has a desisive advatage.

A torque converter will not increase your MPH. Only your ET! Your 60 ft will go from a 2.0 down to a 1.8 .Those two tenths on the bottom will be worth four tenths on the top. Given you an increase of four tenths.Best thing you can do to an Automatic!
If you can change the gears without too much trouble go ahead and do it. 2.73 are a bit too low;an you will see and feel a difference with 3.42. Maybe you could race on a Tuesday Night at Atco.

Some good info in here and some I am not sure about. I agree your times are quite respectable for your setup. If you can bring the motor up to about 1000 rpm's and when you stab it all you get is a little chirp, then your 60 ft is as good as it will get with that converter and gear combo. In fact I have seen stock converter cars add sticky tires and there times got worse. Once you add some stall, or if you can not stab it without excessive tire spin, then some sticky tires will help. Most of the freak LS1's you see running low 13's high 12's stock (in fact all that I have seen) are stick cars. They also are trapping between 106 and 109 mph. Also, a good converter (ie Yank or Vig, not sure about the TCI) will net you a small increase in trap speed as well. This is mainly due to the smaller diameter and lighter weight which takes less HP to accelerate (spin) leaving more HP to accelerate the car. As mentioned, converter, tires, and gears will make a huge difference in your ET's. Good Luck.

A decent converter should increase your MPH.
Keep your 2.73's, once you get a stall gearing doesn't matter as much. Don't spend money on 3.42's or 3.73's, save that money and put it towards a 12 bolt.
Your times are pretty good for a '98 car with minimal mods.
You can 60' better than 1.9's on the stock verter with stock rubber, just ask unit213.
Now go get some Nitto's and a 3500 stall.

My 2002 Camaro SS stock with good weather did a best of 12.96 at 107.8
When i put my torque converter in I did a best of 12.53 at 107.8
My ET got better because of my 60ft went from a 1.9 to a 1.7
If you what to increase your MPH. Buy a set of Headers.

I would say if you are going w/ a stall the gears wont help to much at all but it will hurt your gas milage.

I have pulled many 1.7 60 fts on 245/50 Kuhmo 712's and 275/40 F1's with my Midwest converter......

i only cut the neck - i suggest you research it before you do it but it won't throw a code since you are not really doing anything to the egr system, rather just eliminating somthing blocking air. i doubt it did much but it was free.

My 98 is an a4 I went with a 4:10 rear end and 255 bfg dr's. no converter (stock) and I 60' in the 1.70's it gets a little tight at the top end, but I don't go to the track that much and with a converter I will probably only go 1/8 mile, most street races don't last that long anyway and I don't freeway drive it. 70mph=3200rpm

as far as 4.10's- not for me. i like to go to the track bi-weekly or at least monthly and i street race often. i also like to be able to cruise at 100mph or go 150mph if i feel the urge, so im thinking 3.42's are just fine.
