Are Ford lightnings fast?
I have lightning wanting to race pretty bad, the owner hasnt said he wanted to race, but all of his friends want us to. How much would he have to have done to that lightning to take me?? You see my list of mods, let me know what you think.
(Please do NOT say "search", I have searched, and I want more opinions.)
Thanks,
David

If its the supercharged version, it doesn't take too much to make these trucks run. If he is totally stock, you will probably beat him. If he has a chip, pulley, and exhaust, it will be pretty quick.

Sorry, we posted at the same time, but we have the same opinion. If he's stock you should take him without a problem. If he has a different pully on his supercharger and a few other upgrades, then things would probably be pretty interesting. What year Lightning by the way? 02 and newer had more stock hp and torque.

you never can tell with L's
i have seen em run 14.5- 11.2 in the 1/4....
race him and find out the hard way...
there is no shame in losing to a suped up L
unless you are runnin 10's there is a good chance that some day you will get beat by one...

I raced one a few weeks ago. I didn't think the guy wanted to race but he gunned it at the intersection so I followed suit for a few kicks. I came out about half a car ahead by the next light but he was keeping up really well. I'd say it can go either way depending on what he's done to the thing.

As for the new crazy trucks, I know the SRT-10 is not near as fast as you would expect a 500hp truck to be. A guy down the street from me has two (a yellow one and an ugly orange one...what a choice in colors). I've raced him several times and it really was no contest. Not to say that I beat him by a mile...but enough to say it was a bad matchup. I would have thought 500hp would be enough to really get that thing moving...but I think my buddy's Grand Cherokee 5.9L is almost as fast.

You should smoke him with your mods if he is stock. Even if he is modded you should still take him. If he has a lot of mods, then it will be interesting.

i ran a new lightning a while back, it had him by a few lengths @ 80-90. i even creeped off the line with him so he wouldnt have the "no traction" excuse. we hit it @ around 20 or so and he got a good ole'

My buddy had an 01' with K&N, pulley, chip, and exhaust. From a 45 punch, dead even till I hit 4th and then I started walking. 60 punch, I walked right away. At the track he has ET streets and was running 12.75 @ 105. Not bad for a truck.
btw, I just had a lid and cut out (01' M6 SS) when we raced.

Dont under estimate them, they can be. A freind of mine has one and raced my freind with an lt1 and beat him. Of course he gets wore out when I put the lsx/trex combo on em.

Speed is your friend when racing an L. They hook very well from a dig and the Eaton provides awesome torque to get them moving fast, meaning you don't wanna be playing catch up in a near stock LS1. Pullied L's are very quick for trucks and should not be taken lightly. However the faster you go the more odds are in your favor as at higher speeds aerodynamics, weight and gearing come into play.

My best track time with the mods listed below is a 13.6. With traction, it will be close until 70-80 where aerodynamics and weight really take a toll on the trucks performance. I have seen a guy with a 6lb lower, diablo chip, cai, and et's run a 12.65. 99-00 had 360 hp and 3.55's, 01-04 have 380 hp and 3.73's. I have both and stock for stock the F body felt and performed better, but 450 ft/lbs is really a lot of fun sometimes.
