Question Asr

I feel like a retard asking this question....

I went and looked at 2 different Camaros this weekend, both were 99s and 6 speeds. The first one had ZERO options, no CD, power windows, T-Tops, etc. The second one was nicely optioned. However, on the first car I didn't notice an ASR button as i did on the second. Could I have just missed the button or did certain cars come without this?

Thanks

My 98 didn't come with ASR. Call the owner and ask if the car has ASR setup, Im sure the owner can tell you over the phone yes or no.

Does this affect performance? I hear people talking on the boards on how it is pretty crucial to turn it off during racing.

I can't tell you yes or no, since I don't have it. But I've read some people here, have found it useful and others turn it off when trying for a better time, Im sure people with ASR will respond and give you their opinion on the system.

Mine has pretty much all the options except ASR and T-tops. Yes it does affect performance. When ASR detects excessive wheel spin it uses a number of things among throttle cutback and spark retard to kill engine torque so you don't spin anymore.

It's not a big deal just don't go burning out or breaking the tires loose with it on, or it'll will just slow you down.

I always turn it off. It pulls power when it senses wheel spin. It seems to pull power out even when there isn't wheel spin.

I suppose it has its use for driving in the rain though, its the only time I've left it on.

So since there isn't a switch there is nothing I can really do besides get it programmed to be turned off completely? Would you guys recommend this?

if there is no switch then you dont have ASR, ASR is an Accelator Slip Regulator, when the it is on the computer monitors wheel spin, if the wheel spin is too much, it attivates the rear brakes and a solenoid behind your pedal kicks the pedal back up and will not allow you to push it back down if the wheels are still spinning. Two ways of testing if you have ASR, brake torque it, it should stop you from spinning the tires, or floor it in the rain and see if the pedal kicks back up, i have an a4, in m6s however, ive heard that they will bog out if there is too much wheel spin, but if you dont have the switch, dont worry you do not have ASR

I find ASR to be most helpful in wet conditions. It helps a to keep thr car on the road especially around turns. I leave it on most of the time, no need to turn it off.
