Default Cats and warranties

Just wondered if anybody knew if catalytic converters are covered a certain amount of time past the expiration of an original warranty. Just my luck mine was done last month, and now one of my cats are shot. I'd look it up myself in my warranty paperwork, but I'm TDY to Florida and don't have access to it. Just asking, because I think I've heard somebody say cats are good to 50,000 mi. Anyways, thanks in advance.

I could be wrong but I think the federal goverment requires car makers to warranty the cats for 7yrs 70000mi on all cars. Or it could be 8-80K don't have the paperwork close.

Yeah, I think the cats are covered for more than the orginal 3y/36K

Update: Warranty book says: federal emissions, catalytic converters & power control modules are cover for 8 yrs/80,000 miles.
