Default TA Headlight Trouble

Well, my headlights were making the grinding noise, so I bought the brass gears from Brent Franker (quality pieces by the way). Anyway I get them installed put the headlights back on the car go to use the lights they go up fine, I then put them back down and everything looks fine.

But I touch the lights (both sides) and I can pull the whole assembly up about an inch when they are all the way down. Standing back looking at them they look like they are all of the way down but it just seems like they should lock in place or something but they don't.

Does anyone have any idea what I did wrong to get this problem?

The guy that sells/makes those has instructions at his site and I would back track until I found it. My guess is the arm is loose or bent. Just a guess though. Unless it is only the metal cover on top in which case it is loose/missing screws that hold it down.

Maybe someine else has had this happen or knows better....

well when i did mine, i made the mistake of putting that arm on backwards. technically you can mount it on the shaft both ways, and that made mine loose and the one that was installed backwards went the opposite direction. i dunno if you have that problem too but make sure the shaft is on the right way

Well, I just tried what you said and everything looks to be on there right. I am stumped about it, is there anythinng else that I might have messed up to make them do this?

There is a stopper that stops the arm when up or down. It's white and made of a rubbery plastic material. Is it loose? My driver side stopper is no longer able to stop the raise/lower arm so I removed it and used.....duct tape But it works!

I checked the stoppers witht he lights both up and down and they go up against them with the lights up and down. Is there any specific thing I should check them for?

Did you open the hood take off the headlight cover (the painted part) then pull up on it to see what is actually moving?

Well, I didn't take the cover off but I shined a flashlight down in there while lifting a little on the light. The only movement appears to be on the arm itself, it looks like where the arm pivots it might have wore the hole out a little (if that makes any sense.

That's possible I suppose. Is the arm tightened completely? By the way, if the stoppers are stopping the arm with it pushed all the way up against them they are fine.

I haven't checked for a way to tighten the arms up, I will see what options I have to do that.
