Anyone ever put an LS1 in an 80's G-Body?

Default Anyone ever put an LS1 in an 80's G-Body?

I'm thinking if buying an '84 through '86 Monte Carlo and turning it into a bracket racer/drag car this winter rather than do-up the Camaro for the time being. I'd buy a V6 car dirt cheap, and competley rebuild it. I was pondering what kind of engine to drop in it, and the idea of an LS1 came across my mind. Or would it be eaiser to stick with your good 'ol 350 SBC, an LT1, or some kind of 383 that will bolt in eaiser? Anyone ever heard of this kind of swap?

I would think that it would be pretty simple as bolting in a 350 is childs play. You might have to fab up some bracktry but that shouldnt be too hard if you have the metal working ability to complete it.

go to montecarloss.com i used to own an 88 monte carlo ss and these guys were a great help. from what i remember there were a few guys that had an LS1 in their Monte. hope this helps

Wow, that looks nice!

Only thing I was worried about was I see a lot of 2 and 4 bolt main 350s going in, but not so much a "6 bolt" main 346 LS1/LS6. That's where I was worried

If you look around on John's site, he has some more info on what it took. It is a really clean install. I would hate to guess how many times he had the motor in and back out. If you are seriously considering this, you should look him up.

i would get like an 84, get a stock ls1 longblock, put a carb intake on it. and call it a day

Either that or my friend has a complete 350 he can give me for 50 bucks. I would tear that thing down then rebuild, stroke, and forge that little mother. I'm thinking the 350 would be less of a headache

that would be so much cheaper to go the 350 sbc route. An LS1 car would be cool and pretty original, but WAAAAAYYYYY more expensive. If you are looking for the best bang for the buck... the LS1 is not the way to go.

build you a forged 4 bolt 383 stroker w/ a nice set of heads you can still run pump gas thru, then hit it with a big shot of n20 if it doesnt have enough for you on motor. if somthing takes a dump, you wont have to sell a kidney on the black market to replace it.

LS1's make great fast daily driver cars.

Other than that, SBC (or better yet BBC) would work great in that car.

A SB is a direct bolt in, and a BBC has been done way more times than an LS1 has.
