Tires spinning through 2nd?
On my way home tonight. I was going to wind out 2nd gear and hit 3rd just to clear her throat, and all of sudden when i get into the powerband of 2nd gear it feels like the tires start spinning? It is quite cool out tonight. Not sure my car has ever done this in 2nd gear. Is this possible with what mods I have or could that have been my clutch or tranny going bad. If anyone has any ideas about this or whatever, plz let me know. Thanks.

Cool night, different types of pavement, shitty tires, etc.... many different factors to do it, but I am willing to bet the cooler weather helped by giving your car a little more power and making the pavement and tires cold, but what do I know, I run 14's.

Its very cool out tonight. The pavement wasn't that bad, at least I didn't think. I know Ive spun a little in 2nd before but this was like very noticeable. Like as the rpms were climbing I could hear the motor reving up then it kinda like broke traction and rpms raised pretty quick then caught traction back I guess then started climbing as normal. I have fairly new tires, called Ventus.

i pull onto the same street every day like 50 times, give her some throttle, and it barks 'em some for about a 15-40 mph blast. you know, the kind where it squats and hauls *** but the tires are spinning ever slightly? anyway, i nailed it tonight like i always do and it absolutly blew the tires off. talk about X 10000!!! weather was nice and cool....outside.....uhh.....wheres my damn keys!!!!!

What kind of tires do you have, you never said. If its time to replace them I woudl get some Nitto Drag Radials. They are a great tire, especially for the price.

Ventus something. Can't remember the dam name. I never can. They have about 7k on them. Have a lot of tread left also. Don't need new tires at all. They are Z rated, 275/40/17's. Ventus is a brand from Hankook. I'm not sure how good they are far as performance goes. They look good. I spin a lot in first if I go WOT. If i try to launch it on them. . Thats all I got to say.

Well since you have a pretty much stock car and your spinning like crazy I would have to say they arent very good. Every tire will spin depending on conditions of weather, launch rpm, tire pressure, and how good they are heated up. You might try heating them up and lowering the pressure in them

Get yourself some Toyo Proxes. I had 245/50/16 Avon on my old LT1 and it was like driving on ice everywhere..!! When I got new 17" wheels I had 265/40/17 Toyos and what a difference. Grip everywhere - even in the rain.

He's got the Hankook Ventus tires. I had Hankook Ventus HRII's on my '92 Celica when I had it. Even with that stock, pipsqueak engine those tires didn't have the best grip.

ive got road hugger gtd's 245-50-16's, they hook better than i'd ever imagine. they are super soft, but have a 440 treadwear!! the reason for the high treadwear is the tall grips themselves. i would reccommend them to anyone who has 16" wheels, i got them from discount tire, pretty cheap too. if you go by, ask if you can see one, then feel how soft it is
