99 trans am gears
 

[SIZE=3]Hey guys.. I just got a 99 trans am automatic and I was thinking about putting new gears in the rear end and i was wondering if the 3.75 would be good of to little on not enough. It is also a every day driver and it will probably see the highway a couple times. And also i was wondering about getting a nitrous kit but is there one that is like a fogger or something so i dont have to worry about blowing my motor messing anything else up? And what are other good cheaps mods to help.[/SIZE]

You would want 3.73 gears with a higher stall converter to get that seat of pants feel your looking for. You can easily find a 50-75 HP dry nitrous kit that will fit your needs. NOS and Nitrous express both sell kits like that for the LS1 engine.

What do you have in it already? 2.73 was standard which is good for speed and gas mileage, but can feel slow. i have driven one with a 3.73 and it had a lot of pick up and go. At 70 it was running 2200rpm but it couldn't get much for gas mileage. It could have had a 3.23 which might be a good choice between the two or if you want to increase the acceleration you could do a 4.10 gear at the expense of your top speed. Check your RPO codes on the door drivers side to get an idea of what gear is in it.

I have 3.23's and I had 2.73 both with automatics. 2.73 seems boggy off the line, but even with the 3.23's traction is an issue with 245 tires if you are not careful. I can't imagine 3.73 and 245 tires, too easy for the tires to go up in smoke.

I get 200 mile to a tank with my 3.73's vs 280-300 with my old 2.73's I run 2400 rpm at 70mph If your car is a daily driver you will want to go with 3.42's. Gas is just too expensive now unless you have lots of cash it really adds up. As far as SOTP WOW it make a huge difference. From a roll at about 20mph It with easily break my tires loose and go up in smoke if I stay in it. I definatley have traction issue now.
