Default 1/4 times?

Okay, you guys said a stock 2000 t/a could run in the 12's right? Well I thought that was correct, but the mustang people refuse to believe me. Can you give me some proof or something?

Not ALL will run 12's. Most run low 13's, Unfortuntaly, some people like me dont get so lucky. My 2002 SS ran a best of a 14.0 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> It depends on the track and weather. Most stock 12 second fbodys are M6's though...Has it been done many times, YES, has it been done ALL the time, NO <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Yes it has been done. There was a magazine {High Performance Pontiac} I believe that did a test on a 981LE. They ran something like a 12.98 or something. They were at a sea level track, temps were in the 50s and the had lots of track prep {VHT} likely. They were most likely also blessed with good air that day also. In other words-the moon and stars were all lined up for good times.
My best time has been a 12.97@108 with out power shifting. Mods at the time were Lid, BFG DRs and a couple of free mods. I'm sure that with the right conditions I could have shave a couple more tenths of-12.80s maybe? That means that with out the lid-12.90s? For comparison sake, I ran a 13.42 in high 80 degree weather at Bristol bone stock with around 1000 miles on the car. If I had been at a sea level track with better temps-13.10s maybe? Dunno.
A Mustang mag had a Camaro vs Mustang shootout and they got something like a 12.90 or so in the heat with a 2002 SS. The SS was a loaded model so stripper may have been a tenth or so better. The driver driving it is a good driver, better than most.
Anyways, yes it's possible but not likely. Most run mid 13s for average drivers and low 13s for better drivers. At least at my track.

i thought the record in is a 12.79 in a '01 z?
I think that most ss/ws6's should be under 13 stock. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" />
mine was a 12.91 on F1's <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

He's talking a 2000 (with the LS1 intake). 2001 - 2002 models seem to have more torque stock than the 1998-2000 models, especially after just a lid and a cutout. I've seen a relatively stock 2000 WS6 (no cutout, loudmouth exhaust, no lid) run a 12.8 before. She has an A4, but that seems to be rare for pre-2001 cars that aren't modded.

My best time was a 13.6x before gears and traction, 13.1x afterwards. I don't powershift.

BUT, times all depend on track conditions, weather conditions, and elevation. My best of 12.6 was at HRP on a nice cool evening with good track prep. It got colder as the evening progressed, and it got even more humid with mist lingering, and my track times got steadily worse.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say something that a few of you may disagree with, but I truly believe that just about any LS1 f-body has the potential to go 12.9s under picture perfect conditions.

Now by perfect I mean that track prep is ideal, weather conditions are perfect, the engine is fully broken in (10k or more on it) and in good tune (if higher mileage on it, making sure plugs are fresh, fuel filter is good, etc.) and the driver has to be 100% on his game (especially if it's an M6). Also, fully loaded convertibles may have a harder time achieving this time, as well as loaded cars with 2.73s, but by no means do I think it's impossible for them to do it too.

If my bone stock LT1 can run 13.89 (with a not all that impressive 2.04 60ft too) and with only 275hp, then certainly the LS1s with 330-350hp (as we all know this is their true output) can certainly run 12.9s.

When I do get another LS1 Formula, it will be an A4, and hopefully with 3.23 gears as well. Before I do any mods to it at all, I plan on simply making sure it's fully tuned up right (new plugs, new fuel filter, new trans fluid, new air filter, etc etc) and then I will pick a good day in the early spring or late fall to run it so I have the best shot at running a killer ET.

Evan Smith ran a 12.89 in a bone stock '99 Z28 6 speed.
He also ran a 12.97 in a loaded SS, in the worst summer heat/humidity, with A NEARLY FULL TANK OF GAS....again, bone stock.
I also know of a few others that have done it, one being Bruce (aka: 'Fireturd', aka: 'Zturd' <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> ) on the boards, he ran a 12.88. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
It's not easy (especially for the A4s), but in the right air at the right track with the right driver it will happen.
