Default should i get a manual or auto

OK i have grown up w/ auto trannies n im looking to buy a f body in the very near future. however all of the f bodies in my area are manuals n they are also 1 to 2 k cheaper
now for my ?'s
how hard is it to drive a manual on a daily basis?
What is better for racing a reg manual or a auto w/ a high stall convertor
how hard is it to drive in the winter w/ tons of snow ? auto drop a lower gear n ur set but a manual ???
I live where athere are alot of hills very big ones is it worth it / will it be difficult for a while untill i learn how to shift fast
Also w/ a manual are u alwayus shifting ? and can u really hurt the tranny by missing a shift ?
thats all i can think of now
any experience's either way would be great
thanks

its all about what you are looking for.
what racing?
Of crse high stall auto's are faster that M6's with same mods for dragging. On the other hand, a properly driven M6 is much faster on road/ AutoX circuits than auto's.
missing a shift isnt really a big deal. It's not going to kill your tranny, but its not good for it.
On a daily basis, i wouldn't trade my M6 for anything...i think it gets a few more ladies too <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

hills, snow, cellphones..its all part of the fun <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
my 2¢

Manual and Auto both have their strong points. If it were me though I would grab whatever is cheaper. That way I would have money left over for mods. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

If you can find a dealer who has both an auto and a 6 speed car in their used car section, take both of them out back to back and see which one you like best.

auto <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> High stall auto is fun to drive <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> and I don't end up swearing at my car in heavy traffic <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

M6 has pimp factor, girls always ask to teach them how to drive one. Dont really teach em though <img border="0" alt="[pimp]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_pimp.gif" /> Ive grown up around auto cars all my life so I know how you feel, but M6 all the way. How much is it gona cost for a performance auto build up compared to a new clutch and syncros <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Another vote for M6, much easier to throw some rev's at passing stangs by putting the left foot on the clutch and the right foot on the gas <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

My McLeod clutch was over $1200. But still, having both, the M6 still gets my vote.

Having owned both a M6 and an A4, I'm much happier with my A4 and a convertor. Even daily driving is more fun to me with the A4. A high stall made a huge difference and completely changed the personality of the car. Unless you plan to autocross the car, I'd suggest the A4, even more so if you want to visit your local dragstrip often.

Auto all the way, better for the daily stop and go traffic and more consistant when drag racing. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" />

You said you had grown up with autos, it is never to late to learn... but on a high hp car you can sure scare your self and others in the process....

I prefer M6 I had a 25th annv A4 and now my ws6

but it could just be i am so parcial because the ws6 has a LS1 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> and that is what makes it more fun...

its not hard you can get it <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" />

I think that this thread could run on forever and you would get 50/50 results. The deciding factor in whether you get an A4 or M6 should be what you enjoy driving the most. After all you are the one that is stuck with the car not all of us. Like Patman said, test drive both and see which one you like the best. Keep the bigger picture in mind and don't fool yourself about the car's purpose. How many times will you really take it to a drag strip or auto crossing over the course of a year? What kind of rush hour traffic do you drive in? Just my .02 cents worth.
