3.42 gears
Right now I have 2.73 gears in my z28, with a stock (7.5" i believe?) rear. What all would I have to change to go to 3.42 gears? Someone said something about having to change to a 3 series LSD, but I know nothing about that so any help would be appreciated.
Also, for whatever I would have to fix, what would be an estimate of how much it would cost to have that stuff installed?
Thanks!

i believe when swapping from a 2.73 to a 3.xx, u need a different carrier. the 2.73 have a 2 series carrier, u need a 3 series carrier. goto one of the sponsers and they should have the parts u need. i recomend texas speed.
u mite want to try this forum:

Different carrier. You might want to take this opportunity
to move up to a better differential. You'll be in for the
setup work anyway. I put a T-2R and a hard pinion spacer
and a full master rebuild kit in along with 3.42s. Most sane
people will tell you that's a waste of money on a 10 bolt but
so far, so good. The hard collar and parts kit all told was
about $150 and my diff is now like new. I did that because
I found a sh!tload of shavings when I pulled the cover off
to put the MAC girdle; figured that couldn't be making the
bearings very happy. I think you want a better chunk because
you are going to be putting more torque to the wheels (real
torque, not engine-referred fudged dyno number torque)
and if you're spinning one wheel now this is not going to
improve. T-2R for a road racer, Auburn or Auburn Pro for
a strip car. Don't bother with a T-2HD like SLP sells (for
about the same price as Strano sells the T-2R at); that
has the beef but not the grip. You can pick up 3.23
Torsen chunks for next to dirt (I gave mine away to a
buddy in fact).

Do what i did and buy a whole rearend from someone. Swap it in and go. Someone was just selling a rear off of an 02 SS with like 2500miles on it for 500.00. I only paid 325 for mine but it had about 4?,??? miles.
The other option is go to Thunder racing and buy the thick gears made for the 2 series carrier.
