Default What could be wrong, car idles crazy...

Well the car has done this a total of three time throughout the time i have owned it. First the car will randomly not crank, the battery is dead. So it takes a few time to jump it and when it does finally crank it idles at 1500 then steadily goes up. If you hit the gas it will stay at whereever you rev it up to. ie. i reved it up to 3000rpms and it did not come back down. What could be the problem. I just replaced the throttle position sensor, so that couldn't be it. I am wondering if it is the alternator. What do you think.

Yes a dead alternator or dying battery will cause this. I would get these check first. On a friend's Sunfire, a bad alternator caused all kinds of wierd things to happen; high idle, random reving, not idleing down, etc.
