FWIW I wouldn't get a v6 fbody, the LS1 is what makes the car, the v6 is just meh, is this for a DD, or what

yes its a dd but im also a sophmore in highschool and if i get the v6 its cheaper on gas (which i have to finance myself) and the insurance is cheaper plus if i get the v6 my parents will continue to pay insurance since my car now is a 97 grand am v6 (meh) but if i go for the v8 im on my own for EVERYTHING about the car...

If you are looking for a nicer dd then the V6 is fine. However, if you want the car for performance you are going to want to get a V8.

national average last i heard was 15,000 miles a year, figure it's 7 years old that should put you around 105,000 miles. But could all be highway too, personally too many for me. Also v6 is a good idea for DD, i understand insurance i just graduated last year and 02 Z28 is higher than hell. Hope that helps a little.

if its a 2000 it has the 3800 series motor which is an GREAT engine, my dad has a chevy mini van with the same engine in it and its past 240,000 miles and still running like new.

that is a TERRIBLE deal. for 5 grand you can EASILY find one with less than 100,000 on the clock. you can find an LT1 with less than 100,000 miles for 5 grand!

i would never pay that much for a V6 with all those miles. shoot, for 6,500 3 years ago i got a V6 with only 52k on the clock. don't waste your money on that specific car. yes the 3800 is a good motor but only if it's been maintained. you have no clue what those 155,000 miles saw in terms of abuse.

FWIW my LS1 gets the same gas mileage as my 3.4L. the LS1 gets 22 consistantly, my 3.4L saw 22 most of the time. tradeoff is you have to buy premium vs regular. no biggie.

I'd pass, that's a butt load of miles. Are you set on an f-body?

The engine really isn't a problem. That 3800 is pretty stout and has been known to rack up the mileage without a problem. Obviously it depends on how it was driven and maintained.
