Default C4 or LS1 F-Body

Hey everyone,

I'm looking into buying a new "toy" !! I was thinking either a 95/96 C4 or a 98/99 Trans Am (base) or WS6. Don't bother mentioning a C5, cause it's out of my range Anyway, i know there are both pros and cons of both cars. I haven't driven either, but i do own a 96 camaro, so i know how the power feels. I'm basically looking to upgrade a bit. Both must be 6 speeds! I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has experienced a ride in a C4 or LS1 F-body. Thanks guys!!

LS1 F-Body, no contest! Simply put, in my opinion, it is a better car, that looks better, performs better, responds much better to modifications and ... drum roll please ... it has a back seat!!!! That is a must for me since I have a 3 year old, and am about to have a 4 year old.

a 99 LS-1 TA would be a little quicker than both a c-4 and a C-5 vette. You could have a c-5 feel without the c-5 price.

Good points guys, thanks! I don't use the back seat in my Camaro to often, but you never know!

If you get a 96 6spd with the LT4 then I'd say speed wise they're almost equal, maybe the LT4 would edge it? C4 will be a little lighter, but getting in and out for me (6'3) was nothing short of a chore (It was an L98 so don't bother asking about power feel, hahaha). I've driven my friend's 02WS6 for a whole day one time just daily driving type duty around town, very easy to drive, fun to drive, etc... Only LTx I had to compare it to was my old LT1, which I personally preferred, but for different reasons. Looks wise is totally subjective... personally I think a C4 dropped with 315s or bigger in the rear looks very mean. Or you could go big and grab a ZR1

A friend used to have a 96 vette. It was a dog, it seemed like it fell on its face about 3K rpms. I'd get the f-body if I were you. Unless it was a ZR-1, that's a different story.

You may wish to revise that C5 statement considering it has the same engine as a 98+ fbody and weighs less

Personally I love the look of the C4 - one of the best Corvette shapes IMO.

However it's an old platform, a LS1 Fbody will generally ride a lot better and be more spacious also.

a mate of mine has a ~96 C4 with lots of mods, it looks real pretty. He also has a 97 LT1 Camaro. He uses the Camaro mostly because on the whole it's a nicer car to drive/live with.

The LT4 engine should be a good match performance wise for a LS1 but mod for mod it'll cost more for less returns.

For the looks and exclusivity of a 2 seater the C4 would get my vote, but a 98+ Fbody is more practical still looks good and can go faster for less money.

By the pic in my sig it's pretty evident what route I chose to go.

a c4 vette would be an upgrade, but not by much. now switching over to ls1, a definate upgrade. i never cared much for the looks of the c4 and that would play a major role in my decision here with picking it, so what i'm basically saying is pick what you think looks best. anything can be made fast with some $$.

Firstly he said he wants a 98/99 trans am or a c4, and that a c5 is out of his price range. A zr-1 in good condition is more often in the price range of an older c5.

Now I was faced with the same dilemma. I chose the engine basically and ended up with a 99 ss. LS1>LT1/LT4 is totally true. Plus the T/A or WS6 that you get would be a newer car, and depending on the condition, all other things equal you are almost always better off with a newer car.

That's true I guess. A new car is always better!

Tough call....I'd say Fbody though. Now C6 vs Fbody, C6 hands down!

I've driven a ZR-1, doest that count? lol

I personally would get an LS1 f-body if it were me. Unless you can afford a ZR-1, anyways....

Why a 98/99? Go for a 01/02 TA or Z
