What makes an SS a "true" SS?

What makes an SS a "true" SS? Sounds kinda dumb, but I was wondering what exactly makes it a true SS. We all know that about the only differences b/w an SS and a Z/28 is the hood and raised spoiler(looks wise). But if I bought a Z and slapped on a hood, spoiler, and badges how could someone tell the difference. I know they also came with stickers from SLP to designate the options installed. But lets say someone ordered one brand new from their local dealership and only wanted the appearance packaged...did SLP still put the stickers in the jam? Askin because I plan on buyin one very soon. Got 8000 now but need to save a bit longer to get my 2000 SS. Thanks in advance

The dealer and SLP can also identify whether it is a real SS from the VIN. They know which VIN's were sent to SLP for modification so even if someone gets slick and replaces the door with a door from an SS (to get the WU8 RPO code) the dealer and SLP can tell from the VIN. Sounds crazy but I know one guy that had that happen to him. Always cross check the VIN on the door with the VIN on the cowl as well as the WU8 RPO code.

slp didnt just put on a spoiler and hood for some SS's
mine has a few more options like an auburn diff., slp exhaust, bilstien shocks etc
but yea it "officially" is an SS if it came from slp. theres nothin wrong with puttin an SS hood and spoiler on a z but please dont put ss badges on it.
