Default Ticking in my engine.

I have a 2000 V6 Camaro. When I start my car I hear a ticking noise. Makes me want to check my oil all the time. My oils fine and don't have any leaks. After my car runs for about a minute it stops. It only does it when it's cold or if it's sat for at around an hour. But it doesn't happen all the time. For the life of me I can't figure it out. It's buggin the hell outta me. Any help would be great.

Sounds like typical GM cold engine knock. As long as it goes away by the time the car has reached operating temperature, i wouldnt worry about it.

When the motor has been sitting for a while most of the oil returns to the oil pan. What you hear ticking is your motor's valve train with hardly any oil on it. When the ticking stops, the oil has reached the top of the motor where the valve train is.

Thanks. My dad used to be a mechanic and taught me a lot. But mostly just enough to get by. I'm still tryin to learn more and more whenever I can.

Thanks guys. I won't worry about it then. I'll just do what my dad says all the time. "If the noise annoys you, turn the radio up." LOL

I had the same thing in my 96 WS6 mine turned out to be an under torqued valve. It was loose and had quite a bit of play in it. But then again it may be nothing

haha because i experienced a rather annoying tick that i thought was anything and everthing but an exhaust leak. turned out my header gasket was f'd and sucking in air rather rapidly. It "ticked", i never knew it sounded like that!

I have the same problem right now and I have checked everything. Did you have carbon build up around the header where the leak was? The reason I ask is because I don't have any carbon build-up which makes me think that it isint a leak. BTW my tick never goes away cold or hot and gets faster with revs. Sorry to steal the thread.

no carbon buildup, and it did get louder with the RPMS. I originally thought mine was a rocker or something in the valvetrain for that reason. Check your gaskets, check your bolts.
