Getting ready to purchase

Getting ready to purchase a 2000 SS 6-speed 55k miles

But want to have checked out by a mechanic before I put down the cash
can any one recommend someone in Oakland/berkeley, Califonia?

you might want to take this to the "western" forum....youll get alot better answers there

just try to do a search for the known issues with the 2000 cars... honestly I dont know of any. The only issue I have ever heard of witht he LS1 cars is piston slap and that was really only in the 01-02 cars, more so in the 02's. There has always been the issue with oil consumption, but some people have it, some don't.

the guy said its been hit in the front left quarter panel.
he says "no frame damage just the body panel has been replaced".

I`ve heard that theese car are pretty much junk after theres slight frame damage?
so want to get it on a lift to make sure

I drove a few 2000 SS`s 6 speeds this one felt alot better than the otheres I drove.
Very strong, he says he babied it.

if there is frame damage that is bad since theses cars are unibody cars. If that fender was the only part replaced I would not worry about it. If the radiator support was bent, I would look more into frame damage. But again, if only the fendor was replaced, no big deal. Try to get a carfax report, it should say if the car was damaged in a major accident. Also ask the owner for a copy of the body work, and make sure it was only the fender, labor and paint.

Thats what he said, only fender and paint, but he also said it was along time ago.

I just really want to make sure, im not that knowledgeable with Cars and im paying top dollar for this car

Had it checked out
they found that the rear end is leaking and needs to have a new seal put in.
is this a big deal, does it mean something worse?

also they said it pulls slightly to the right, they think its because the lower control arm looks like it was moved over slightly.

He explained the lower control arm connects to the frame with a slot in the frame and the bolt can slide over a little.
The slot is bigger than the bolt and it looks like it was un bolted and slid over
Hope that makes sense?

What you guys think?

also it needs front rotors and pads

$15,000 way too much for that
