Difference between the LS2 and LS6?

I am curious about the differences between the LS2 and LS6, I know that they both have about 400 hp-ish, and the size of the LS2 is 6.0L and the LS6 is 5.7. and the LS2 is used in the GTO and vette, and the LS6 was used in the old Z06.

Thats pretty much all I know.

What I want to know is: GM had 2 400hp engines, why did they get rid of the LS6, too expensive to make + upcoming LS7? Could they have just used the LS6 in the 05-06 GTO and new vette? Or is the LS2 a big improvement over the LS6?

If someone could straighten all the info out that would be great.

Well, I know the cam was bigger in the LS6 which is were it makes all of its extra power. The LS2 has more cubes and compression but they have almost identical cylinder heads. I beleive they went to the LS2 because it has a nice round 4 inch bore and they made all the extra power with out spending extra money on stiffer springs and what not. Not to mention its so choice for stroker motors. Gotta love those budget 402s from our sponsers.

Alright thanks, that clears it up.

LS6 had pricey internals that made it achieve 400hp

LS2 was bigger so that made it achieve 400hp.

LS2's are mass produced for a variety of Platforms. C6 GTO Traiblazer SS CTSV.
The LS6 was a limited Poduction Engine for the C5 Z06.
They have the same Heads but the LS2 uses the `01 Spec(385HP) LS6 Cam.
It Also has a better Intake & TB. Besides 364 cubes vs 346
It is Underated at 400 HP

Correct me if im wrong, but i thought that the CTSV's had the ls6 in them....or did they change over to the ls2 once the engine become massed produced?
