Default Did cop cars have LSx???

I'm wondering if any cop cars came with LS1 engines? If so what cars had them and would they have had any special mods?

no, no special mods to the motor, but the B4C camaros came with LS1s. I believe they had a more heavy duty suspension, beefed up electrical systems, and cooling systems.

BTW...the B4C cop cars were slow as **** in comparison to standard LS1 vehicles
due to additional equipment weight. I've seen some 14.50's out of them.

But isn't that true for any police-work car compared to it's standard counterpart?

Well to be fair, the majority of them are A4's with 2.73's.

www.9C1.com is a great source for late model GM police cars if you have any other questions.

Yeah there are still a few State Trooper Camaro's here in Arkansas, and with 2.73's it's not meant to be a 1/4 mile beast, but you better have your **** together if you run from him on the highway!

There are several BC4 owners onm here running "normal" times. I doubt the cop cars have 700# extra stuff in them...Even a LS1 2.73 A4 could run a 13.8.

Having owned one and my dad ownind over a dozen I feel that is not qualified. I also have seen them on my dealer lot and have ridden in fully loaded ones and lived next door to a cop for a while.(<crown vics)

WHAT THE HELL are you going to put in a BC4 CAMARO! to give it that weight? computer? HD cooling/electrical stuff? Tools? flares? cones? Come on, WHAT WEIGHS 700#? Seriously? REmember, the car is 100# lighter than normal Z28's anyways as its a 100% stripper to start... To add enough weight to make it run 14.50's would DESTROY!!! handling. And be close to impossible unless you filled the trunk with lead or something. Oh, some had light bars...another 50#? So far we have lap-top,tools,light bar, MAYBE a cage although I dont think they had cages in thsoe cars because the back seat was useless and its hard to put one in that would work. So far the most I see is 200# + the cop himself.

I knew a Trooper Camero in Jacksonville that lived next to me the car was nice it was a 2001 and had 99 SS rims, I got to ride in it, but he never would let me drive it though!

He was chasing a motorcycle and blew the motor up at over 130!

So now he drives a Impala! He said they were phasing them out because of cost and high mileage on them. And replacing them with Chargers!

At least. Usually a little faster for a lighter weight Camaro/Formula (vs T/A).

wow.. a LOT of people dont know what they are talking about at all

only the later 9C1 (police package) Caprices had iron head LT1s, the early ones (without the radiused wheel wells) had TBI 350s, i think the change came in 93 or 94. they came with seperate oil and transmission coolers, heavy duty radiator and hoses, and big front and rear disk brakes

B4Cs came about at the end of third gen production. 89 or 90 i belive. they had upgraded suspension and brakes, no t tops and aluminum drive shafts most if not all were 1LE cars also. with the LT1s the only diffrences were a bit stiffer suspension and no t tops available. all automatics had 3.23 gears and all had alumium driveshafts.

with the LS1 B4Cs the only diffrences were that the top was body color, never had t tops, it didnt say Z28 and all A4s came with 3.23s. other than that its identical to a base Z28 hardtop. after i got my B4C from the indiana state police with 130,000 miles on it it ran a 13.2 @ 104. bone stock, no drag radials, no nothing. i cant immagine what this car did when it was new. yeah cops carry around a lot of gear, but i highly doubt that the cop who had this car carried enough stuff in it to even bring it into the 14 second range. that means he would have to have over 1000 lbs consisting of him, a computer, radio, shotgun and paperwork, which is higly unlikely. even when police cars these cars were very fast and deffinatly quicker than 99% of the cars on the road
