Default my car seems slow

i bought a 99 ss with lt's, borla exhaust, lid, 373s, air meter, ported tb, 3600 stall, and other small things. my problem is this car dont even scratch second gear. it is supposed to have a built tranny. i used to have an all stock 93 lt1 A4 and it would catch 3rd. is this normal

With that size stall u should just be doing a huge burn...at wot from a stop...it shouldnt hit hard enough to do that with that size stall.

by catch second do you mean spin? spinning is a bad judge of power if thats what you are going by, take it to the track and see what it does, then make hasty conclusions IMO

+1....you could just have better tires or something like that...although, I would think you would be screeching second everytime at wot with those mods.....maybe the seller said 'has a built tranny', but what he ment to say was 'tranny needs a rebuild'.......b/c you have more done than me and I scratch second when I don't even want to...

Maybe the tranny is programmed not to shift so hard as to induce spinning. I thought the point was to get the car to hook and not spin, specially when upshifting.

I agree. "chirping" second does not mean your car is slow. My friend has a stock 2003 GT Stang and he has chirped the tires in 3rd a few times and i have never done it. But that doesnt mean his car is faster. I have more power than him and i blow the GT emblems off of him every time.

It's most likely in the tires. My old tires would break loose at up to 60 mph when I got on it..now that I have some decent tires the power goes to the ground which is where it belongs.

Could traction control have anything to do with it too?

I used to chirp 4th in my 244whp 5.0 shifting at 4K...its all gears/tires and stiff suspension. Chirping is a BAD measure of power.

Torque management could be hurting you too, does the car have a tune to go with that big stall?

i dont have a stall but, someone told me that when you go with a higher stall your shifts arent as snappy. get a shiftkit to get crisper shifts. itll strengthen up your tranny too. and to beat the dead horse, tires also play a huge roll. when i first got the shiftkit on, my stock wheels with brand new tires would chirp so hard that if i were driving fast and doin a turn it would almost kick out the rear, it was real easy to lose control of it. so i went with oem z06 wheels 10.5in out back, with some brand new BFG kdw2 tires and now i only chirp in the morning when its moist. eventhough its fun, chirping is wasted power. also, the ss wheels are an in. wider and im more than sure they have better tires than your tl1 did. did your ss come with suspension ungrades? i think youre fine man. get to the track. sounds like one hell of a ride. geared and stalled SS with flowin exhaust=

He is probably rolling around on E/T Drags with about 12lbs of air in them!

Just go to the track!

Peace,
Craig.

it came with control arms and a torque arm, and air bag. it has torque thrust wheels with 40 series street tires. the tranny was built by pro built automatics about 8000 miles ago.

air meter? my car doesn't do it anymore either if i floor it it barley moves and smokes alot. its probly the stall. a shift kit will firm up the shifts so that way you can spin when you shift.
