How much do dr's usually cut off of a stock ls1 f-body ET? And how likely am i to blow my rear out? i havent been to the track yet and prob wont make but a couple passes a year

Ive see a lot of people knock almost half a second off....there are also a fair amount of people who have blown up their rear ends trying to do it. If you do a hi rpm launch on dr's you have a decent chance to break the rear end and that chance increases as you do stuff to the car. There are even people who have broken the rear on street tires, so it does vary from rear to rear.

So hopefully you can get lucky, and dont launch from too hi an rpm and be ok. But make sure you have the money around to buy a new rear incase, otherwise dont do DR's

Since your car is an A4, you're not gonna be launching it at a high RPM like an M6, so take a chance!

yea 6 spd guys are the guys having the most trouble. I blew my 10 bolt on street tires from a 1st gear roll..but ive got alot more power no offense..but i would put a stall converter in and some dr's and cut a full second off..

depending on your 60' times on street tires,dr's may not be worth it without a verter first.most full weight cars on the stock verter with dr's get around 1.9xx's.i was cutting 2.0's.with a verter they are a must!a4's are easier on the rear so don't worry

I had DRs on my 99 Ls1 M6 and I ran a 13.38 as my best time
after I had worn those down a bit I was running 13.5 - 13.6
I usually would launch at 2700-3000 because anything else would
go up in smoke.
I don't have any street tire experience at the strip but the DRs did hook
good compared to the street tires i drove on the street.
I wouldn't worry about breaking your rear end unless your car has
been abused before. or you have somthing done to your suspension that will
make your car hook.
If you go for Drag Radials be prepared to buy rears every year or ~7k miles
Mine are completely bald now, but I drove on them everyday. They still sufficed for everyday driving until the tread pattern wore completely off leaving only the two main rain grooves left.

Thanks guys, and would lca and phb help or hurt me in this case? And i'm riding on kumos right now which basically suck so i'm pretty sure dr's would be a help, and i have another set of wheels i can mount the dr's on so they wouldnt be on all of the time..

i broke my rear with stockish HP. though i think i was just unlucky. DRs will help. even on a stock car. autos are much easier on a rear and it should last at least until youre well into the 12s.

lol damn dude i cut a 2.0 with my stock converter and i have 2.73's, and i didn't even heat up my tires in the burnout box because they were pretty new.

you're not gonna blow up your rear end on drag radials with a stock A4. 10-bolts frequently see 10's on automatic cars. it's ALWAYS possible to break your rear, but it's also possible that a meteor will hit me in the head right now and kill me.

with 3.23's,stock verter,and a 3720lbs raceweight my best 60'was a 1.97.same setup with nittos gave me a best of 1.94.all i was saying is the stock verter isn't going to let dr's really help very much(too tight)

my best on street tires is 13.18 with a 2.18 60 ft and with my MT Street Radials its a 12.82 with a 1.82 60ft

after re-reading my first post i should clarify that the 2.0's were on street tires :bang:

I took 4tenths off my 1/4 when I first got my DR's. now they're pretty worn so I need some new ones. Personally I think if you are worried about breaking the rear end then don't race. I broke a 10 bolt with my 89 2.8 six camaro :drive:
