for $14,000 you should easily be able to find a car with less than 70k miles. My 01 Z28 was $9k w/ 69k miles. Don't consider salvaged title cars. Some states will give you a hard time about titling them or will only let you have liability insurance.

Even on ebay there are some nice cars, probably in your area or close, that have low miles and a low price. Just look around.

All depends with the miles. Hell I just hit 60,000 on my car and the car is in great condition, never burned oil, no noises, etc.

As for $14,000, you're not going to get an 01 or 02 WS6 with that unless something is wrong with it or you find a huge deal. You could possibly find a 00 WS6 but may have to stick with regular TA's. You might have better luck with private sellers. Dealers jack up the prices of WS6's heavilly. Good luck.

I got my car for $13000 with only 42k miles. I did get it from a dealer, but it was a 1 owner car, and in perfict condition. Plus i got a short warrenty with it, and it was certified. Look around, and you will find something.

Again, like a few members have noted, Don Not buy a salvage title. SOme places they will not insure them, and banks 99% of the time will not loan $$ for one.

Depending on your area, 10 - 14 K should buy you a decent mileage, clean F-Body. I live in north Texas and you can find some really decent deals here.

If your willing to travel, scan over ebay, then auto trader online w/ a wide search are (i.e. 750 miles) and see what pops up. Traveling sucks but, if your in an area where they are charging to much cash-O-la for the F-Bods, take the time for a deal.

Good luck !

Thanks for all your input,

i live in CA and most of the Trans am or WS6 cars i find on auto trader and are way out of my price range, and the ones that i could aford have to many miles IMO,

Now im sure of not going after any car that has a salveged tittle, one question though when people are stating that the motor has been rebult, would that be a bad thing?
or should i avoid those cars as well?

Venom,

Check out our "Vehicles for Sale" section.

Find a car in your price range, discuss with him how the transaction will work, pay him, have it shipped on truck to your door(500-750 dollar range depending on company)

^^^ Good idea, shipping costs aren't too bad, and half the time, the people selling cars here have been around so long that lots of people have opinions on the car. Plus, $14k here will buy you a lot more than at the dealer.

not a HUGE difference, just 01-02's came with LS6 intakes (8-10rwhp) Some got a LS6 block cause they supposingly ran out of LS1 blocks(Extremely rare to find)

99-00 are sometimes viewed as having some weak areas and strong areas. Such as 26lb injectors(weak), and having a bigger cam as opposed to the truck cams used in 01-02(strong point).

In the end they are all the same.

If you wanna go fast get a Auto and put a stall in it(nothings faster)

If you wanna have fun get a M6.

Its up to you!

Thanks for the complements on the "money pit"

PM me if you need anymore help.

Also if you look at JRP, and Y2k birds stickies In the newbie tech section you'll find out ALOT of information about these cars. I suggest you doing that, and research and get the exact car your looking for, it will save alot of time and frustration in the end!

Save the money and get a NON WS6/SS car. The motor's are exactly the same, with the 'power increase' coming from the ram-air intake. This doesnt matter seeing how every LS1 car out there has a LID on it anyways and the !FRA mod.

Anyways...stay away from 98's if u can. They are the first year for the LS1 in the F-Body and when modifying them, they require a lot of 98 specific parts (ECU tuning for example).

HP on the 98 - 99's were 305HP i believe and the 98-99 WS6/SS was 320HP...the 2000 was 310HP and 2000 - 2002 WS6/SS was 325HP.

2001-2002 WS6/SS w/ the SLP package was 345hp.

I live in San Diego and found an '01 with 30K for only $10,000. Funny thing is that it was the first dealer I went to and the car is in great condition. You just have to look around.

Stay clear of salvage title, they are nothing but trouble and are not worth it unless you are doing a non-street legal race car.

High mileage ls1s should not be a problem because these engines last long. If you find one with 70-80k miles go for it, it has tons of miles left. Of course nothing like a low mileage ls1, but then depending on year they are much more expensive as you pay for the miles.

Try Autotrader and expand your search area to 150-200 miles, you should find some good deals, regardless of mileage.

I would definately stay away from a salvage title. 99% of banks will not loan money on them and some insurance companies will not insure them. You should be able to find a car with well under 100k in your price range. A friend of mine got his SS from a guy on ebay and didnt have any problems. I bought my SS from a member here on the forums and I would highly recomend looking in the for sale section. Just check often and you can find what you are looking for.

A lot of specific parts? LOL, hardly.

Different PCM, different head castings (using perimeter bolt valve covers), different gas tank.

That's about all that would matter during the modding process.

Some '98 stuff will help during modding. Like the stronger flexplate for the A4 cars and the bigger injectors than the '99-'00 cars.

I've owned every year '98 thru '00, let me tell you there is not a damn thing wrong with '98s.
