What are people doing to reduce weight of there Car.

I was just curious (to those who have reduced the overall weight of there car) what you are removing. I would like to shave some pounds of my beast. I don't want to completely gut it like full on drag racers do, but removing the back seats would be fine. What else is there to do?

NoGamesLS1 01-19-2007 03:11 AM

Airbag carpet speakers stereo center console. Just think about what is in the car that you dont need, then remove it :)

gforcejunkie 01-19-2007 03:15 AM

front bumper foam is lik 5-10lbs

Cool, thanks for the help. The link was quite helpful.

Searching4Sierra 01-19-2007 03:35 AM

a light weight battery is a good way shed some pounds

verve_v 01-19-2007 03:37 AM

What goes into removing the AC stuff. Can i just remove it and be good to go or will i need to do other things?

NoGamesLS1 01-19-2007 03:53 AM

Just remove the compressor, condensor, and piping.

lsx24 01-19-2007 10:47 AM

Back seats and spare tire/jack are a good 50+ lbs.

Do you have to get a plate, fake pulley or something? I mean it changes the belt configuration. How does that work?

2002ls1a4 01-19-2007 01:06 PM

get a shaved monkey to drive ur car. that should cut about 100lbs

no, it runs a separate belt that only drives the A/c compressor.

i weighed my bumper support - 15lbs.

Take out back seats, thats a good 30-40lbs with seatbelts out also. Front and back bumper supports or whatever thats another 40-50lbs bt the 2. take out a couple speakers thats a good 15lbs. Then get a gym membership and lose bout 50lbs :thumb: should be good to go after all that.

echo3313 01-19-2007 04:46 PM

anyone know the weight to e/t ratio is on average in an f-body?

2002ls1a4 01-19-2007 04:48 PM

i picked 3 tenths taking out psgr and rear seats, spare tire and jack, seat belts and ac. i dont think its a good idea to take out the bumper supports if its a street car.

Ripper415 01-19-2007 06:28 PM

for a street car leave the safety stuff (bumpers, airbags, etc). you never know when some a-hole in a rice rocket could crash into you. but yea, the back seat, spare tire, and jack are worth well over 50 lbs. if you really dont care about music take out the head unit and all speakers, wiring, and the amp. that'll save some more.

I weigh a whole whoppin 133lbs LOL. Ive got the advantage over just bout everyone.

verve_v 01-20-2007 10:48 AM

Damn man, you are a small person.

2000SSGirl 01-20-2007 10:53 AM

LMAO@ some of the replies. No sense in me removing anything...by the time my big ass gets in the seat, there's just no point. Sure as hell ain't letting anyone else to drive it either. That monkey idea sounds like it'd be a perfect 'Trunk Monkey'. :thumb:

02NHRAtransAm 01-20-2007 10:57 AM

My spare tire and jack were among the first to go...... i 2nd the :barf: mod :D

orangeapeel 01-20-2007 12:07 PM

Suprised no one has said tubular k-member and replace upper and lower a-arms. I dropped enough weight off the front to raise 1 1/2" drop back to 1". Probably close to 80 lbs.

I took out my jack and spare tire, thats about it for me though ;) I refuse to give up comfort for weight, my buddy has a car that weighs 2500# though :eek2: 240sx

PowerShift408 01-25-2007 01:13 AM

I've taken out back seats, seat belts, spare, and jack. I'm gettin ready to dump my power seat in favor of some lighter buckets. Lighter wheels are a plus (losing rotational mass far outweighs pulling anything out of the car). I'm in the same boat as you though, I don't want to give up everyday amenities for a few pounds. But you have to think this way: You can't lose 100 lbs. in one place, but you can lose one lb. in 100 places.

mcamarols1 01-26-2007 08:54 PM

i would take my engine out and cut a hole in the floor and Flinstone it down the track lol

gotta love the :barf: mod
i did my spare and jack, my stock amp, i remove my subs and amps, back seats, and i remove the ac belt(yea the belt alone weighs a ton) naw but i do it more for the less rotational mass thing, i still have to find me a nice set of drag wheels.
wheres a good site for drag wheels?
