Default oil change

I have run seafoam in the block and I am going change the oil and replace it with mobil 1. How many containers of oil do these engines take? I know it is a 5.7 liter but I am sure it uses a different amount of oil. I know super newb question but I have never changed my own oil. Thanks for any help.

I usually just put all 6 quarts in, and no problems. Just changed to mobil 1 10w-40 yesterday since its starting to get blazing hot around here, and I couldnt find german castrol 0w-30 anywhere.

what about the LT1? I always hear different amounts, and never found an exact amount.

Is it 5 quarts or 5.5 to 6 like the LS1?

Thanks for all of the info. I did a search and found 5.5. just got back to thread now. IT is all done. But like I said I did it before I read any responses to my thread and did not fill the oil filter up with oil. What can go wrong if I did not? I bought the k&n one. The TA seems to be running fine.

You fill it up to avoid having a dry start. It is possible to do internal damage, its a good thing to practice and also taking a little oil and rubbing it on the gasket of the oil filter. I'd say you are probably fine, but I wouldn't do it again.

I will make sure to do this from now on. I did put oil around the gasket and threads. Thanks for all of the help.

And while your cranking it what happens then? You can not fill your oil filter up, I'll take the 30 seconds to fill it up. Thats like having your car smoke cigarettes, it takes miles off of its life
