Unhappy Rev Limiter at 5600 in 1st

I have noticed lately that my car has been hitting the rev limiter in 1st at around 5600. Usually its much closer to 6000-6100. Any Ideas what could be causing this? I do need a tune but what would cause it to change without my prompting it?

I think a fouled spark plug could do that??? Only hitin on 7 cylinders maybe its a good thing. Hmmm, This is just the first thing that came to my mind.

i would say maybe your tach is off or not keeping up with the actual rpms of the motor?

Doubt its a fouled plug since it still pulls really hard, no difference in performance. I took it out tonight and wound out 1st-2nd gear fine. For some reason It hits early only on occasion........

The rev limiter is the computer controling the spark and fuel, since you think it occasionally happens earlier than it should. I would conclude that there is an intermitent problem with the fuel or spark. It is unlikely that the computer would retard them early.
Pump? Fuel filter? Loose wire? Voltage?

It is generally known that the tach is a little slow in these cars. It is much more noticeable in 1st. Maybe your tach has gotten even slower. Probably nothing wrong with the car itself.

I am thinking you are right, sir. What is strange to me is that it only is noticeably off once in a while.

Lazy tach. More noticable in 1st as the rpms climb the fastest there.

I'd have to agree. I never noticed that the tach felt incorrect in my car until I wired up my window switch for my nitrous and they were giving me different readings.
