I was just curious at what speed people use 6th gear for fuel economy? I usually use it at speeds over 55 mph unless it's hilly.

I use mine at 50 but I have 4.10s before I got them I'd use 6th at around 65, 70

I am talking about interstate driving. When I am driving around town and I am going to be doing 60, then I am in 6th. When I am accelerating to get up to internet speed, I dont shift into 6th until 70.

w/ 4.11s I shift into 6th at 55 and over for cruising. But when driving my friend's SS w/ stock gears and stock cam I shifted into 6th at the same speed. I think my car just feels healthier at higher cruising rpms.

I think so because you are lugging the engine. I shift into 6th around 50-55 mph and the rpms is around 1500. I would not drive the car in a gear that turns the engine below 1500 rpms.

stock 3.42's 60mph is the earliest i'll go into 6th...

It all depends. If you're cruising along at 1400RPM on flat ground just barely touching the throttle, and the motor has no real load on it, then its good for fuel economy.

However, if you're "lugging" the motor, meaning high gear, low RPM's, and lots of throttle, then thats bad for fuel economy and not so good for the motor either. You basically just have to balance it out.

Ideally, you want the highest gear possible with the least throttle position possible, without lugging the engine. Follow that and you should get the best fuel economy.
