>>>True Duals with stock headers?<<<
Hey guys i dont want to change my headers cause i live in california but i was thinking about doing true duals with two bullets dumped on my 1999 ls1 m6. Should i just weld a bullet into the i-pipe and dump it? Otherwise i was going to get the slp y pipe for stock headers and then cut it and weld an x pipe on the end of that and then run the bullets dumped. Will i see any more noticible power with the duals vs the i-pipe on a mostly stock ls1 camaro?

It will be mostly for sound, shouldn't notice much for gains compared to the amount of work and money involved. I wouldn't worry about it unless you wanted to upgrade your exhaust manifolds, or if you just can't stand the sound of your exhaust.

No, you would not see a noticeable power increase with that setup.
I vote you just get an aftermarket cat-back setup, or maybe a cutout before the muffler. Even both, if you like.
Or just go with some nice longtubes and real true duals.
The best thing you can do is move out of Kalifornia!

just my two cents,
i would just increase your piping to 2 1/2 or even 3" if possible then just dump them in the middle. believe me you will feel alot faster, regardless of what they say. dumps are a secret to power that alot of people don't know about. i did that at first, but then got my hooker supercomps lt's and now it sounds like a track car lol. with stock headers it might sound a lil nasty though so its up to you.

I'm pretty sure the stock manifolds are going to be the bottleneck in your exhaust, so changing around things that are downstream from that aren't going to yeild much of a gain. If you're hellbent on keeping your manifolds then I'd bust out the sawzall and dump it with a bullet and a turn down angled outwards.

could always go with shorty headers and you can still have your cats goin into true duals and not mess with emissions . . . thats the way i'm probably gonna go. most people don't realize how bad of a fine you get for removing cats and gettin caught doin it. $1000 or more for lt's sims tuning and welding and $5000 or possibly more for removing your cats and gettin caught or just keepin your emissions?????? i'm votin emissions

your not going to really "free up" any real power without some headers. I live in the dissasterous state of Ca and just put kooks lts on, lt's are gonna be your best bet for power and sound. If you really dont wanna do it get a good catback with a cutout. Just my .02

If you have the money ($779), Bassani makes a 2.5" true duals kit that bolts right up to your stock cats. The stock manifolds flow quite well on a LS1. Headers were much less of a gain that true duals for me. Look up Mrr23 on here or at LS1.com. He dyno tested a 20rwhp gain going TO Bassani true duals FROM an aftermarket catback setup on stock manifolds. My Bassani has been by far my best investment. I noticed a small increase with the headers, but a much nicer increase with the duals. Here's a video I made before the Pacesetters with stock cam and stock cats to give you an idea of the sound: http://s217.photobucket.com/albums/c...nt=Bassani.flv

My roommate has a TSP 3" Y-pipe hooked up to his stock headers (CATS and all). He said they had to do some tweaking and "re-shaping" of the pipes, but it's definitely possible. I know b/c his car is right outside and runs fine, looks good too (perfect clearance for his dual electric cutouts too. I dunno how he did it).
I'll try and get some pictures up.

Why would you go with longtubes and duals only to install high flow cats?
Once you go with mid length or long tube headers are smog-illegal in Kali. Cats or no cats.
