Default Z06 clutch = Z28 clutch?

im looking into gettin a '98 Z28 and the guy says the clutch may need to be replaced in a couple thousand miles. i saw on here that alot of guys run the Z06 clutch cuz its stronger than the stock f-body clutch. well today at work (i work at advance auto parts) i looked up an '03 Z06 clutch and it was the same as the '98 Z28 clutch...what gives? is the computer system wrong or what?

anyways, i can get that clutch set, with flywheel, cover assembly, release bearing, pilot bearing/bushing, alignment tool and hydraulic line tool for $415 next day to the store. is that a decent deal?

thanks for the help, ill admit, i didnt try searching (im bout to head out, and wanted to try to find out).

A lot of guys run a Z06 clutch but it's the LS7 clutch from the new Z06. You can get the entire kit from SDPC for $399. It comes with the required LS2 flywheel, the pressure plate and the clutch disc. I have one and I love it. I have also had two Spec clutches and didn't have any luck with them so far the LS7 is holding we'll see. Next comes a twin disc.

The z06 clutch came in the 01-02 f-body's IIRC. So I'm sure they just did away with the ls1 clutch's since it was just as cheap to get a zo6 replacement.

Also a true statement but I was just assuming the OP meant the current trend of running a Z06 clutch which is the LS7. They did do away with the LS1 clutch part number it was costing too much money to stock both so you can only get the LS6 Z06 clutch as a replacement.

Yup there are two Z06 clutches.

The LS6 clutch - Factory in late F-bodies and C5 Z06 (and later C5 LS1 Vettes) designed for a 405hp engine.

The LS7 Clutch - C6 Z06 this clutch is actually a tad bit smaller in size. It also requires the LS2 flywheel which is about 6lbs. heavier, if i remember correctly. Designed for a 500hp engine.

If you take advantage of the good deals lately you can get the LS7 clutch/LS2 flywheel about $60-100 cheaper than the LS6 clutch/flywheel. Got mine at Skoggin Dickey for 399
