Default Air Lid Question

I got a MTi air box lid for christmas and I put it on right away. But since I put it on it comes unlatched and tries to work its way off everytime I drive the car. Has anyone else had this problem it refusing to stay still?

i know a lot of people have problems with their lids staying shut. What kind of airfilter are you running and do you have a aftermarket bellows? I know if i do not have my airfilter in just right and the lid slide in just right mine will pop off.

I have a K&N Filter. I shoved it on as far as it will go on the MAF and then get the tabs in and latch it. It seems fine and fits but when I go drive it pushes back forward and the latches pop off eventually. It was a PITA to get on too. I have push down on it pretty good because the part that connects to the MAF hits the box.

And I don't have the coupler. Still have the stock on of those.

Nope. They are tight. I think it's coming off because the MAF is is constantly pushing the lid forward.

do you have a smooth bellow? that garbage usually messes with lids, also try putting twisty ties on the clamps, my friend has them on his TA, just make sure they match your paint, lol

Is your lid sitting down inside the base? I've seen a lot of lids that don't want to fit down into the base and sit on top which makes it almost impossible to latch. Then the lid rubs the underside of the hood too. Here's a picture of my lid showing how it sits down in the base. No problems with it latching.

I had a similar problem with my slp, i had to bend the latch to where it curved more and let the latch completely close against the front of the lid.

Ahh no it isn't. Right now it is sitting directly on top. So far it has sat still with the way i put most recently. I'll try to see if I can get it to sit like that tomorrow.

G-ryde1, I looked at your other post and noticed that your lid has a short hose connected to it and then the MAF. My Maf is connected directly to the lid so there is no hose around it to make contact with the airbox base. Are you sure you're supposed to have that hose on there and not the MAF into the lid? Here's a couple pictures of my lid. I bought it used so I have no idea what brand it is. You have to click on the links.

I guess your lid looks a little shorter than mine. I have no need to cut into the base like you did as mine seems to clear fine. My MAF doesn't contact the base either. I've seen quite a few guys with their lid rubbing the underside of the hood which shows that it's up too high. I guess it shows that some lids do fit better than others. But like I said, I have no idea which lid mine is so I can't even make a suggestion.

MY SLP lid has the marks from hitting the hood, i got it that way, and every now and then one clamp pops off, its winter now so this is another thing on my to do list.
