Default ice in radiator?

ok its alabama and its 10 degrees outside and as i walk out to my camaro to go to school this morn i notice a drive coming from the front left of it? i freat because i take great care of my car and do an overhaul on it just about every three months. so i pop the hood and bam theres ice comeing out of the rad cap (this scares me) so i open it and its like a green slushy in there. so i look around and no ice or water anywere else so i just start it up and listen or look for anything else. dnt see or hear anything and its up to running temp now and nothing else. what else should i check? were are the freeze plugs located on the ls1. it never occured to me to check the damn coolant.

i think i paid 260 for one on my LT1. sounds like somebody needs to invest in an antifreeze tester and use it before it gets cold. hopefully it didnt freeze nothin in the block. because if the **** in your radiator foze most likely the fluid in your block did the same.

add some more antifreeze to the mix, and some radiator stop leak will probaby do the trick if you need a cheap way out.

if it froze there is too much water in there and when it warms up and melts it makes more pressure so it has to go somewhere. i wouldnt worry too much if it stops leaking if it doesnt buy a new radiator.

If it is shot, you should look at putting in a LT1 rad instead. I've heard it's cheaper and has better cooling as it is thicker than an LS1 style.

Sounds like you got lucky. I've seen lots of blocks crack themselves before any of the "freeze" plugs move at all. Never actually seen a "freeze" plug pop out. Anectdotal evidence, I know.

too much water not enough anti freeze! anyways if you dont have the dough and its not too big of a leak you could also use bondo to plug it temporarily

I'd look for signs of coolant mixing with oil...

it'll crack the block rather than pop out a freeze plug. When water freezes, it's not like it chooses to apply it's pressure at the weakest point, it'll just apply it wherever it occurs and if the expansion force is greater than the strength of the block, it'll simply expand or crack depending on the metal.

The radiator should freeze before the block. Do yourself a favor and check your coolant regularly.
