Default What is the weight difference between a T/A and a Formula?

Anyone have the exact weights from GM for the Trans Am vs the Formula? If possible I wouldn't mind knowing what the Z28 and the SS weigh as well. (LS1 cars)

Actually they're not. There is a bit of a difference weight wise between them. I have seen the figures before, but I don't remember them exactly other than remembering the T/A was the heaviest, then the Z28, and the Formula was the lightest, and the dfference was something like 200 lbs. I would not call that "99% the same".

Obviously the different options make small differences that combined can have a decent weight difference, but consider all of them to have the same options (T-Top, CD player, cloth, 6-speed, AC, power locks and windows).

"Actually," they are.

The stripper Z is the lightest, and it's probably less than a 200-pound savings (not counting 'verts). When you start taking **** out of them, they're all the same.

Power windows are lighter, BTW. All weights are in a sticky, which I think is in the drag race section.

Alright fellas, let me specify what I am looking for. I need factual numbers here from a source. "I think this weighs 100 pounds or so more than this" is not what I am looking for. I tried searches but came up with nothing relevent. I also tried looking in the stickies in the Racing section, and there is nothing there pertaining to this other than how much certain items like the ash tray weighs if you want to remove it from your car. There's got to be a GM info list somewhere for weights for cars with certain options.

Anyone got anything?

Good topic man

WS6 hood and spoiler on a trans-am adds 80-90 pounds. From there it all depends on the options you get. Leather is 20-25lbs, power windows and and all that good **** is about 20 more pounds, though don't quote me on that.

I had my car weighed a couple weeks ago, its a regular T/A with power everything, a moser 9inch, leather seats, all suspension mods in sig except the dsl, t-tops, a 10" sub & amp, sumpthump box and amp rack, with a full tank of gas...... the only "weight reduction" ive done is take out the factory amp (maybe 5lbs) and my car weighed in at 3640 lbs.

According to this site it's 35 lbs.

http://media.gm.com/division/canada/...9Firebird.html

Here is the copy and paste for a quick view:

WEIGHTS/CAPACITIES
Curb Weights 1515 kg. (3340 lb.) - Firebird
1570 kg. (3465 lb.) - Firebird
Convertible
1570 kg. (3455 lb.) - Formula
1580 kg. (3490 lb.) - Trans Am
1625 kg. (3580 lb.) - Trans Am
Convertible

Now I do believe that those stats are based on when the Formula has the same options as the Trans Am. I think a stripper Formula (cloth seats, no power options and automatic tranny) weighs about 3400.

Finally! Someone with a factual link!! The problem is that it doesn't specify for what options those weights are, and that is for the 1999 Firebird only, as the weights did vary a little bit each year as well.

Anyone else got any links to actual weights other than "this will add between this and this weight" or "my modded car weighs this". Looking for factual numbers here people with a source. Not looking for "I think" or what modded cars weigh. For example, the moser adds a bit over the stock rear and you start adding that stuff up and its way off the actual weights. I just want the facts.

Just do google searches. That's all I did to find that link. I typed in 1999 Trans am curb weight. Try the same thing only mix up the years with 98-02 and see what you find.

is that how much the leather weighs or the differences compared to cloth???

Same thing for the hod and spoiler i think the hood and the wing weigh about 80-90 pounds together, don't know but i don't think a hood and wing way around 200 pounds.

Pretty sure I read somewhere on here that the High level spoiler weighs about 47 lbs. The R/A Hoods are fiberglass and weigh less then the steel flat hoods. Not sure but I thought I remember it being about 15lbs lighter.
The 17" wheels and tires are heavier than the 16's but maybe only 5 lbs combined. I can't see the T-tops being much heavier cause most of the same roof supports are there in a hardtop so the biggest weight difference would be the Glass. Base Formula's have PW PL PM and Monsoon CD, basically all the same as a T/A except Leather and T-tops. Only way to get a Stripper Formula was to Order a 1LE.

Look fellas, AGAIN, I'm looking for referencable accurate weights here. If you have a number for a certain make and model F-body please only post it if you can reference it to some factual link or document.

Please don't post up weights otherwise.
