some help
Hey guys I have a 2001 Z28 and I have mid length headers with a catted Y-pipe with the LM2 exhaust. and I was wondering if i should remove the cat? what would the gains be? and if any what are the negatives to doing so? Thanks for all your help.

if you remove the cats, you will throw a code, unless you get o2 simulators or get them tuned out. the car will also be louder and probably use a little more gas... i cant really say if the power will go up because i dyno'd my car after they were off...there is also a slightly more noticable smell of gas...if you live in a state that has emissions or might move to one of those states, i would advise against removing them because you have a 99.9% chance of not passing the sniffer test

I live in michigan and i dont know the emission standards here, im just wondering if it is worth it.... its an easy mod thats inexpensive, but i'd be doing it simply to free up some more horsepower. and I already have a code tripped from my headers i think, and im going to get a tune but i wanted to wait until I do a couple more things. anymore suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

the first thing to do is find out about emissions first...you dont want to have to undo everything you did just because of that...i checked and double checked before i took em off

michigan has no emissions checks for cars so you are good to go as far as that is concerned. and if teh cops ever pull you over all they wil usually do is tel y ato get it fixed and i always say "this is how i bought it" and they tend to just give you a warning. but a friend of mine did use paper towels to quiet it down to get out of a
'fix-it" ticket. i love how raspy and loud my TA is with my long tubes, ory, and LM1.

ok, I just had the impression that cats were very restrictive in the area of power and if you removed them gains would be seen. I dont know what I should do now.

Thanks for all the suggestions...... now I have another question, I have my stock throttle body and know I want to do something with it. What would be my best path just buying a ported one? and how hard are they to remove and reinstall? and when I do remove it is there anything I need to be aware of while Iam doing it? Thanks a lot
