Which is a better mod: LID or F&N FIPK??
So which one is better? I've heard people say they really like the K&N FIPKs but is it worth the money? I have a 35th Convertible SS M6. Just got it 7/9/03 with 563 miles.

The K&N FIPKs looks totally BADA$$ to me.I don't see how it couldn't be very effective.I have a lid right now,i'm eventually going to upgrade to the K&N FIPKs system,i've heard a lot of positive feedback from people who have them.
Good luck either way you go.
Congratulations on the purchase of the new f-body.I purchased mine new also,it had 4 miles on it.

The comparisons I've seen in the past, show it pics up no more than a lid and filter. It may look cool, but for the money they want for that thing, I can't justify it. Go with the Texas Speed & Performance (TSP) lid. I went from one popular lid design to the TSP lid and it is much nicer in quality and fitment.

One of the downsides to the FIPK is that the engine is going to be sucking hotter air from the engine bay. That's never a good thing for power. The stock setup with a good lid and filter will give you positive results. I'd save the money, personally.

I like the traditional lid and filter approach.
I had an FIPK for a while but sold it since I was going supercharger, but they are nice quality.

I was using a lid and noticed a big sotp difference with my fipk. Car pulls easier and harder. Don't get a Steath lid. There's no extra gain going to one and there over $300.

I switched from an FIPK to a lid and have never looked back. IAT readings were typically 15-20º hotter with the FIPK according to atap. The FIPK does sound better than a lid.

Ask 10 people this question & you will likely get 7 different answers.
I have had both & personally (4ME) i like the FIPK II.
Great power, mileage & the look is hands down much better than any lid. My .02!!
Anyway, get what makes you happy. If it were me, i would not do anything to that Anniv. SS!!
That will be a "true" collector 1 day. Good luck & welcome to the forum........

consider that if you do get a lid,
you can also add a ram air system
i dont know if you can do that with the FIPK
so really,
what would make more power,
the FIPK
or a setup like FTRA and TSP 85mm lid?

This if the FIPK:
I switched from the RK Sport Lid to the FIPK. Like some of the aftermarket lids, I noticed mine didn't seal properly. After I installed the FIPK I felt slightly better throttle response. I've had it for over a year and it hasn't gotten that dirty yet.

Email LucasHarp@EV1.net and I'll send you pics of the FIPK and how I modified it to get more cold air. And if you wanted to you could use it with the FTRA.

Re: Which is a better mod: LID or F&N FIPK??
Well, hate to bust in, but I have a FIPK and between cars and setups I have seen difference in IAT's. Both will run warm in when sitting idle, moving is cooler, on both lid or FIPK.
At hauling *** speed, the pressure from the ram air may improve the throttle response moreover the FIPK, but who knows really? Getting off idle, the FIPK would appear to have the advantage as it is more open, straight shot for the air to travel vs. the routing of the lid, especially if sealed off.
You can add a ram air to the FIPK, maybe not sealed but you can add it, I have, and it works. Just cut out a rectangle under the FIPK filter and viola, you get fresh cooler air crammed up in there.
Nice bellows on them too, great for holding a nitrous nozzle at the right angle, and solidly.
