Default Were my spark plugs very bad?

This is one from the driver side. They all look pretty similar. I checked the gap one of them and it was .057 or so, which I thought was odd. We're going to finish the passenger side tomorrow.

Looks ok as far as wear, the color looks a bit odd but who knows what they're putting in the gas these days.
How many miles on them?

mine were much worse when I pulled them

They aren't bad, looks like they got a bit hot once but if you were racing at one point that could be why. Good idea to change them though.

I got the car last September with 119K. It has around 126K right now. I don't even know if those were the original plugs and wires.

I just picked up a set of those for my Z28 today, I've had them in my SS for around 6,000 miles and they still look ok.
Before I bought the TR55's I searched a little on google and most corvette owners are recommending 15,000 miles.

Which ones exactly? I'll get those next time. I also got some MSD 8.5mm wires. How long should those last?

I usually replace my wires about every 35-40k. Prob a little early but I just do it anyways. Another vote for ngk iridiums as well. Unless your gonna run nitrous then go with TR6s

I pulled some TR6's out of my car. (they had 30k+ on them.) They came outlooking very good. It all depends on how the car is running. My TR55s look almost brand new after 2k miles.

That plug is absolute trash and any other opinion is wrong, no offense to anyone. Iridium is snake oil and there is no reason for it, get some $2.09 AC delco plugs or the cheap Bosch's etc and you will be fine for a looong time to come. Upgrading spark plugs is an age-old folly, it's a simple device that performs a simple job no matter how much you try to advance it by changing the metals that support the spark.

How long do MSD wires last? The same as stockers, barring catastrophe they can quite possibly be good for as long as you own your car. Unless you have over 100,000 miles on them plug wires should not be considered preventative maintenance, especially on an LSx engine with such a short wire.

So, my TR55s should last 30K miles or so?

Honestly, there is no definite "plug life" unless you have a boosted or sprayed engine. Maybe a really high compression race engine as well. Any tame DD car could have their plugs last indefinitely. I would change them between 30k and 50k most likely, but check them periodically before that. Plug wires on the other hand shouldn't need replaced unless the insulation starts cracking, boots come off, get up against a header etc.

Some people will always tell you "replace it periodically, it's cheap insurance" but that doesn't mean that's the best advice. I saw a thread not long ago where someone gave intervals for changing the starter, alternator, and water pump periodically as preventative maintenance
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Lubes and filters and such obviously need to be changed periodically, but that's a whole different category.

Iridiums are not snake oil. They DO last longer than copper plugs. That's what were discussing here. It's not true that they give any HP gains, but no one is claiming that. The sole benefit of iridums is that they last 3-4 times longer than copper; which is why they cost 3-4 times as much.
