Default Full exhaust with California emissions?

I have just gotten my second F-Body, a black convertible , Z28 six speed. I live in Northern California and would like to have full exhaust. I would like it to flow better and be louder. Can someone please give some suggestions to legal setups or places that I can get advice for a setup that is smog legal, thanks for any help.

Your best bet is a catback and a cutout. If you go longtubes you will be illegal unless you have someone that you can ' pay '

yeah as long as you leave all the Al Gore emission bs (cats, air, egr) you should be alright with an aftermarket catback although you may fail the visual inspection. (im getting all this info from what i have read in other peoples posts on this site, this gets talked about ALOT on here)

move to a state with no emissions, join the military, get stationed in california (but keep your car registered in said state), forget smog!

You can basically do anything you want after the cats as long as you have real mufflers that aren't too loud. But you can't remove, replace, or even move the stock cats in California which means you will need to leave the stock Y-pipe/cats to pass. And as for headers you're screwed as there are no 50 state legal headers. I believe JBA makes 50 state legal shorties, but thats it.

I hate visual inspections. My headers have 02 sensors, my car has cats, and all my smog equipment is hooked up and working, but because Pacesetter didn't pay the CARB tons of money to certify my headers, and because my cats aren't stock or in the stock location my car will fail. ******* retarded.

i had to remove my mac mids and put the stock stuff back on.
it sucks. swapping back to stock manifolds and y-pipe made a noticeable decrease on the butt dyno.

I am from northern california near sacramento. I have already had a 2002 Z28 (sunset orange metallic) and I totaled it. This is my second camaro Z28 (black convertible) and I just want a little more power and a much better sound. I would also like to be compliant within the law, I know that shorties are only a replacement for stock manifolds but it should free up something with a y-pipe and gmmg exhaust, correct? Along with a new intake manifold, ultra-z hood and an FIPK intake kit, I was thinking 40-50 more horses from stock...? Nothing major as I drive this everyday.

with shorties, and the mods youre listing youre looking at more like 15 rwhp tops. shorties are pretty much the same as your stock manifolds, so if youre going to do the work to swap them out i would suggest just sucking it up and putting longtubes on and running a catted Ypipe. especially is you want to get 40-50 more horses over stock.

btw what year is your car now and what intake manifold were you thinking of putting on it?

^^^ yes it is when it's closed.

As for the shorties Edelbrock makes a 50 states smog legal set. There is a set for sale in the western section right now. They used to be mine from my A4 Z-28, now another member has them since i got LT's.

You can always just get LT's and ORY, but keep the stock **** to swap back on before a smog test. You only have to smog once every 2 years. It's not really that hard.
