Talking Air bag help????

I am trying to help a friend from another site change his ignition switch. I am wondering if anyone can tell me how disable the air bag. Also does anyone know the size of the torques that hold the ingnition switch in ( I think).

I haven't even gone to see the car yet and it is still together, but I am sure that if I can figure out, after that is I find the safe way to remove the air bag. I should be cool after that. But who knows I have never done one of these cars befor but I am pretty handy.

I have searched this site and I haven't seen anything on this topic, if I am wrong please give me a link to the page.

Thanks
Mike

Are the wires for the air bag in a yellow loom like in other cars?

yes all air bag connectors are bright yellow. handle the module with respect do not touch
the terminals on the bag. static electricity can light one off.

there is a connector under the center console. but if you disconnect the battery and wait id say ten minutes to be safe, you will be fine without messing with the connector

yeah, I just took mine out a couple of days ago to fix my horn problem. Disconnect negative terminal, 2 torx screw on backside of wheel, disconnect yellow wire going right to the airbag...and presto! Not bad at all.

Thanks guys for the help,

I have never worked with an air bag and I don't want to try to help my buddy by setting off his air bag !
I will post and let everyone know if I succeeded or not.

Again thanks for the quick responses and help.

Is there a "best" way to avoid this? Such as grounding myself first? Or useing a dryer sheet to get to static off me first?
