Driver's Side Window Problem!!!

Ok, I tried doing a search for "window switch", and all I found were threads in the nitrous section... just goes to show how much of a noob I am haha. But the problem is, in my 1999 z28, the driver's side window switch works on and off, it works sometimes, and most of the times it doesn't. When it does work, the motor seems to be fine, it goes up and down without hesitating (unless of course, the switch craps out). So how should I go about getting this fixed? Do you guys think it's just a bad connection somehwere, or is it indeed a bad motor? How much would it cost to get fixed?

get a flat heads screw driver, and EASILY pry up the little panel your window button is in and make sure the connections are all in place.

sounds like a bad motor i've had 3 camaros, and replaced window motors a total of 6 times (none on the new car thank god) they are bad about going out on these cars

Would it really be the motor? Like I said, when I can actually get it to work, it goes up and down without a problem, which leads me to think there's a bad connection. I did pry open the little panel, and there was electrical tape all around it... but after taking it off, everything seems to be connected correctly.. but then again what do I know? I could be very wrong :(

it could be a connection problem. does the window slow down before it stops working? thats the biggest thing, if it goes pretty quick all the time, then it wont be the motor (tho it could be shorting out maybe?)

take it back to the dealership and get them to fix it...for free!

bamxbam Jun 30, 2008 09:35 PM

nah the dealership won't do that... the window problem was part of the negotiation! :(. the local chevy dealership said an electronic diagnostic was going to run $100 bucks... should i go with it? or go somewhere else?

update... just purchased the driver's side window switch for $26 at the dealer and that didn't work. i'm beginning to think it's a problem with a connection deep inside the door... dammit. oh well, there goes a $26 mistake haha

lol dont spend 100$ at the dealership... its prob a shitty connection..
i dont know the answer, or even if there is a ground.. but could there be a ground thats loose?

take off the door panel and check everything, its not that hard to take off, just a few screws and it lifts right off

How long does that take to do? I wouldn't mind trying that, but if there was some kind of guide online with pics that would help. I was actually going to take it to a local mechanic tomorrow, but maybe I can try myself?
