Either way you should get a lid, you get the same benefit from a lid whether you have Ram Air or not. The lid will compliment you induction system, it's not a cold air by itself, but it flows more air and flows it smoother than the stock air lid. This is basically the first mod that all LS1's get.

It's even worth it just for appearance sake, it really cleans up the look of the engine bay.

From what I've read on the board, basically the two cold air kits worth getting are the Fast Toys Ram Air (FTRA) or the Austin Ram Air which is also known as the Super Sucker Ram Air (SSRA).

I actually just installed a FTRA on my car, I haven't really tested it out yet so I can't tell if it made any difference. I also run a SLP lid, btw...it was my first mod.

Yeah, def get the lid, as far as the cold air, I can't say if it's worth it or not yet. Looking at the stock intake, and the way the FTRA works, I can definitely see that there's better airflow though.

Honestly, I don't really care if I get any HP gains, I think any I get will be too small to notice on the street, but Fast Toys claims a 5-7% increase in fuel mileage can be seen with thier kit. So that's what I'm looking for.

I'll post my results after I run a few tanks through it.

asl long as you delete the silencer and add some smooth bellows, Its all up to the user on how you dress it up..

A lid is a lid.. remember that..

Personally I prefer A cold air setup. I had the K&N FIPK and Ive since changed it to the Volant setup.

Good to know, that's exactly what I'm looking for.

Hopefully I have the same results as you.

i have the K&N FIPK and so far i like it cant say i noticed anything seat of the pants cause i had LT's and a 3" ORY installed and when i got home i threw on the cold air. i can say that i have the SS hood and it does make the filter get very dirty very quickly being right under the vent from the hood. KrisXpc not to hijack but why did you switch?

hell, i had no luck with a lid and ftra... i switched to K&N CAI and noticed sound increase and a little performance over a lid... And got it pretty cheap from this site

ftra is a usless mod IMO and dont care what anyone claims...

i have a 01 z28 with only a borla exhaust and just added an SLP lid couple days ago. you can tell that it "breathes" better and more of a throttle response.... still got to get it dyno'd to see if theres any improvements...

so to answer your question an slp lid works for me.

300+ dollars for a filtercharger, or 60-80 bucks for a used lid in decent shape? The marginal gains of the K&N isn't worth it for me...it might be a different story if budget wasn't a factor.

Well my Hawk came with the Blackwing lid and after I added the FTRA I noticed a difference at over 40 mph. You could always just do a decent lid and the free ram air mod....

I had a lid and SLP ram air on my M6 and saw no differance. When I put it on my A4 it was night and day. Woke the car up.
